COSTA MESA (CBSLA) — The price for a gallon of regular gas has climbed as high as $4.05 in Orange County recently, which is why many drivers headed to Sam’s Club in Fountain Valley, where gas was going for $3.30 per gallon Monday — a full 75 cents cheaper than the most expensive stations.
“Gas keeps going up,” Mandy Hall, a driver, said. “I don’t know how they can justify doing like 10 to 20 cents a day, every time I turn around.”
According to the Auto Club of Southern California, gas prices in Los Angeles County have hit their highest rates since December 2019, with self-serve regular gasoline getting more expensive for most of February.
The average price Monday was $3.74 per gallon in L.A. County, following 20 consecutive days of price increases.
And in Orange County, the news was not much better with gasoline prices increasing for 21 straight days to $3.73 for a gallon of self-serve regular gas.
“I think it’s outrageous,” Timothy Bortvit, a driver, said. “It shouldn’t fluctuate that much just because there’s a problem some place, I don’t think. It’s gouging.”
So what’s actually causing the price of gas to go up? Experts say the recent spike is due to gas stations switching to a more expensive product known as a summer blend.

.30 - .40 per gallon higher in northwest Virginia. Thanks, Joe!
democrats destroy everything.
At this gas station. GasBuddy says the price is $1.39 now, but that is likely a typo.
Blue urban voters don’t care since most use public transportation exclusively. This only affects fly over voters with long commutes.

Mandy has reached the limits of virtue signaling.
Is there any other way????
Didn't notice what gas is selling for here.....NE OK. I know it's under $2.50...
I just don't drive much
What we need is 40 threads about the price of gas going from ridiculously low to very low.
Since the inauguration, prices here went from 1.99 to 2.85. I’m expecting $4.00 by summer. And President HARRIS will be HAPPY!
BTW - I live 20 miles from a grocery store. But I’m moving and the new house will have a grocery store (small) just 2 miles away. Big shopping days mean driving 35 miles one way still. Not sure anyone in DC knows places like this exist.
As long as plugs gets blamed I don’t care.
Cheap gas is not a God given right. Pillory an industry hard enough and it becomes inefficient and expensive.
Get ready for shortages. Petroleum is being forced into a going out of business model.
Better stock pile it at that price! Houston a little far for me too drive. LOL!
I don’t know about today California’s gasoline taxes.
Years ago at least, the California sales tax was calculated on the highest cost including the federal taxes per gallon.
WHICH STATES HAVE THE HIGHEST GAS TAX?
In a not-so-surprising turn of events, gas prices seem to be increasing across the country. Increased gas prices have placed more pressure on families, who are already struggling to make ends meet. Furthermore, the current situation also highlights the important matter of high taxes on fuel in many states across the country.
Some states have been driving the gas tax up in order to find adequate funds to address the issue of damaged bridges and roads. This has been the case for a while now, but for the most part, the federal tax has been standing at 18.4 cents per gallon since 1993. All things considered, it seems like the tax might increase by 25 cents in the future.
Meanwhile, the American Petroleum Institute data reveals some states have been charging motorists extremely high gas taxes in 2019 – federal, state and local taxes. We are going to take a look at the most expensive rates from the lot.
STATES WITH THE HIGHEST GAS TAXES
Here are the states with the highest gas taxes – from highest to lowest:
1. Pennsylvania
Topping the list of states with the highest gas taxes is Pennsylvania at 77.10 cents per gallon, according to the numbers by the American Institute of Petroleum. It also looks like things might get worse for Pennsylvanians.
The state of Pennsylvania has been increasing gas taxes based on a law passed in 2013, which aimed at revamping the work that had to be done on crumbling bridges and roads to get a boost of $1 billion per year.
In light of this move, tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike have been increasing further on an annual basis, which makes it very costly to drive a vehicle in the state.
2. California
California comes in second on the list of states with the highest gas tax at 72.76 cents per gallon. Rising fuel prices and increased taxation are the primary reasons for this.
A law that was passed in 2017 allowed the state of California to increase the gas tax by a steep 12 cents, because it seemed like the most viable way to obtain the funds needed to replace several bridges and fund other important road projects.
You can expect the state’s gas tax to increase further by 7.5 cents per gallon in a few months.
Breaking News! Uniparty (R) and Uniparty (D) are both war mongers for power and profit. Who do you think Ike was warning us about 60 years ago, the Whigs?
Food and gas. Most families’ basic needs, and the prices keep getting higher. War on the middle class. Food stamps and food banks feed the lower. The higher continue on.
Oil companies and production outlets and refineries and drillers and transporters all know Dems increase costs
So they hike.....ironically they do well when Dems tighten oil production
More profit on less oil pumped out of the ground
All those wells you see capped and seesaw style pumps not moving will now be uncapped and moving again
No question
I wish I could stockpile it. I do have a canister that can hold about 15 gallons of gasoline that I keep strapped to the bottom of my car. I filled that up on Monday. I don’t know where else I can keep additional gasoline.

[Excerpt:]
“Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American
makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can
no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create
a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men
and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military
security more than the net income of all United States corporations.
This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the
American experience. The total influence-economic, political, even spiritual—is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need
for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil,
resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence,
whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous
rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.”
