My Dad had a recipe: Bloody Chariot Wheels
Cut hot dog into thin cylinders and coat with ketchup.
I still make it.

Ketchup on a hot dog just ain’t right, even the notion of a highly modified ketchup doesn’t tempt my taste buds. Ketchup has it’s place however, it’s good on burgers, fries, and will do in a seafood cocktail sauce if you’re short on chili sauce. But, for hot dogs mustard and onions is my usual default, however when available I’ll go for sauerkraut and German mustard.
My introduction to the hot dog was the Roanoke Weiner Stand, the place was tiny and paper wrapped dogs stacked up in the window were 5 cents each and were a young boy’s delight, the highlight of a trip uptown with my grandfather. I don’t remember ever seeing any ketchup among the available condiments. It may have been verboten.

Even with French fries, I pass on ketchup. Gimme the salt and vinegar.

Never ketchup a hotdog! Mustard is the only acceptable condoment. Screw that! I put both on. Don't care if it makes people cry. In fact I'm into the schadenfreude.

According to the chef, he doesn’t like ketchup on steaks.

New Mexico has already perfected the new ketchup: salsa.

Had a friend in college who did that. Ate his fries with mustard. I tried it and liked it, especially dijon mustard. The French use mayonnaise, so what's the big deal?

Mustard, relish, chili, onions, and, sometimes, sauerkraut are acceptable...
Ketchup never!
Unless you mistakenly put french fries on your hotdog...

I assume in New Mexico they put green chile on hot dogs.
