On Monday, Twitter user @Toffifay76 stirred up some hot internet drama by posing a question to her followers: “Fleetwood Mac or Chicago?”

The straightforward choice between the two beloved rock groups went viral, and has since racked up more than 1,700 likes and 4,200 responses.

“Chicago!!!!!” voted one enthused devotee of the “If You Leave Me Now,” and “You’re the Inspiration,” artists. “I know ppl will unfollow but I have always hated Stevie Nicks. Her voice is like a fog horn… Don’t @ me!!” “Fleetwood Mac (BEFORE Buckingham & Nicks) was one of the three greatest English blues/rock guitar/guitarist song factories in history,” voted an opposing listener.

Over who sucks more?

I'm sure everyone here is anxiously awaiting your opinion on who does NOT suck.

Green or Welch era Fleetwood Mac, good stuff. Kath era Chicago, good stuff. Otherwise, yawn.

I was listening to the Bare Trees album just this morning. Indeed, there’s two Macs, before BN and after. Still, there’s a couple songs written by Stevie and Lindsey that may very well be the greatest pop songs ever recorded - but of course, it’s entirely subjective

A better either or might be Chicago or Nitty Gritty Dirt Band or The Beatles or The Band. Led Zeppelin or the Who

I was just hoping Blood, Sweat & Tears would tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.

Chicago. Not even close. Seen them in concert countless times. They show an American flag on the huge monitor during the show.

Well, it’s true that Stevie Nicks has had more abortions than all of the entire Chicago band members put together.

‘...when it comes down to it probably the best two popular guitar players of the 60s-70s were Glen Campbell and Roy Clark.’

both were astoundingly good pickers; I always thought Campbell was just a media creation (Rhinestone Cowboy, ugh) until just a few years ago when I saw a video with him playing...and Clark was the best, simply the best...

I thought you were going to mention Chet Atkins. Both Campbell and Clark came from him.

I don’t know where you got that information, but it’s kinda hard to graduate from the University of Miami, one of the better music schools in the country, without reading music.

Per Jimi Hendriks, Kath was the best guitar player he ever heard. I heard this on the Chicago Rockumentary when they were recounting touring with Hendriks as his opening act

Glen [Campbell] was the only member of The Wrecking Crew who couldn’t read sheet music. That’s unheard of for a studio musician. Heck, their job description is pretty much being able to play sheets perfectly by the second take.

Most guitarists back then only read Tab (Tablature) (not to diminish his aural memory) and it's still that way today.

From the 1980s comedy 'French and Saunders', where Mark Knopfler, Lemmy Kilmeister, David Gilmour, Mark King, and Gary Moore give testimony in court that they can't play guitar/bass without Tab.

I was just perusing you tube, this group does a dead on impression of Fleetwood Mac's music.

I hadn't heard of them before but it seems they've been around for awhile.

Well that sounds like something a head banger might say.

Yes and no. I first started listening to FLeetwood Mac when they were a British blues band (in the style of John Mayall). And Chicago when the brass section and jazz/fusion was their primary sound. Then disco hit and they both went top 40.

I had front row seats for a concert back in the mid 70's, you're right.
