no shutoff valves and drains?

No Ways to siphon or pump turlet bowls?

Those are pretty standard things everywhere.

Absolutely no excuse for not having and being able to operate the above.

Is there a way to convert a gas driven generator to one that runs on propane or natural gas?

So again, who asked for money, nothing in your link said anything about Texas asking for money. It is Biden that took the action. Can you not read? From your article:

Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. declared that an emergency exists in the State of Texas

It says nothing about Texas asking for money.

We are considering secession, that is not tough talk again according to the article you posted it is action being taking.

Furthermore it is not snow that is the problem it is the cold.

Besides not being to bright or able to read, why are you so envious of Texans?

You would probably be better off buying one that was purpose built.

I agree with your thought. At the same time, things have to be really studied to determine the best way forward. The questions really come down to,. “how can we prevent this, what will that cost, and is it worth it?”

One option everyone has is to get their own place and procure their own generation plant. Of course, that would be very expensive.

Or should we just say the free market failed us and let’s try government run everything?

Here is the Gov asking for a Federal Emergency Declaration - found it for you since you are not capable of finding it your self.

The areas in Texas that did winterize their generating plants after the 2011 freeze didn’t have as much trouble as the ones that didn’t winterize.

Spend the money, save lives!

Not disagreeing with you. I can certainly manage. I am just saying not many people in Texas think that way. Too many people moving here from other states.

Some think, “I am not going to have any more cold weather! I am leaving this snow shovel behind.” ;)

The preppers of the world made it through just fine.

I know I did. Buy it also revealed some weak spots that will be shored up soon.

Succession is tough talk

Because it is just that talk

Every time something doesn’t go Texas’ way, you all pound your first like children and demand succession like a bunch of spoiled brats

2nd thought you are right, it isn’t “tough talk” it is just whining

I am afraid that you may be right, of course. There are too many transplants in the major cities for a referendum to pass. Still, it would be interesting to see how close it would come if put to a vote.

And no, we can take care of ourselves quite well. At the same time, we are sending money to Washington so why shouldn’t Washington respond in kind?

Actually, my state gets the least back from the federal government, NJ

And when Sandy struck, Texas politicians made it well clear that NJ shouldn’t get a dime in federal disaster relief

So here is Texas needing federal money for a few snowflakes

NJ didn’t make you guys buy wind farms and power plants that don’t work in the cold, so why should we have to bail you out again?

Like the other poster said, you kind of paint with a broad stroke you appear to know what we all think every time.

By the way, you can’t spell either, it should be fist.

A fair response is that investment in winterizing reliable thermal generation was distorted by by renewable energy incentives distorting market pricing making such investment uneconomical.

Say what? Having wind generation be more expensive would have provided incentive for the gas and coal plants to spend money on winterization?

The power generators didn't bother to do that because it would have raised their costs and the regulators didn't require it.

In the current Texas environment what's the incentive for any provider to spend money on winter reliability when they can't charge the customer for it and there's no real downside to them if they go offline for a few days when it gets cold?

“...who was also frozen out of his South Austin home and had temporarily relocated to a warm location in Dripping Springs”

Sometimes you just can’t make this stuff up...

They SCOFFED at me for warning people about Y2k and to make sure they had a generator and a way to stay warm. Apparently I was 21 years ahead of the curve!

Hang in there Texans!

Wow! That is a very good point. I had to go do some research. I found the following from Ted Cruz. Hopefully, it will help explain his vote:

Hurricane Sandy inflicted devastating damage on the East Coast, and Congress appropriately responded with hurricane relief. Unfortunately, cynical politicians in Washington could not resist loading up this relief bill with billions in new spending utterly unrelated to Sandy.

Emergency relief for the families who are suffering from this natural disaster should not be used as a Christmas tree for billions in unrelated spending, including projects such as Smithsonian repairs, upgrades to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration airplanes, and more funding for Head Start.

Two thirds of this spending is not remotely “emergency”; the Congressional Budget Office estimates that only 30% of the authorized funds would be spent in the next 20 months, and over a billion dollars will be spent as late as 2021.

This bill is symptomatic of a larger problem in Washington – an addiction to spending money we do not have. The United States Senate should not be in the business of exploiting victims of natural disasters to fund pork projects that further expand our debt.

Kind of like using Covid to pay for all the big spending policies of the big cities, huh?
