Why am I posting this? Because there are dozens of FReepers on dozens of threads today who cannot understand that Cruz made a drastic blunder.

If Beto is out there doing something, then how can anyone defend Ted going to Cancun?

Look, I like Cruz. I'll continue to vote for him. But he screwed up.

Maybe Texas deserves the likes of Beto and Lyn’ Ted?

I accept your premise. Bad optics and bad politics.

However, I also submit that part of our problem as a nation is that we look towards DC to fix our problems. Texas is one of the largest states and one of the largest economies in the world. How/why this falls to the feet of a US Senator is beyond me.

I further submit that this is the kind of hit job BS our media uses to deflect the follies of green energy madness and weaken republicans. It works every time.

It is a diversion. Instead of talking about how bad the green energy grid has been in Texas and how utilities and the governor’s administration has focused on that rather than making sure the grid and production would not completely collapse during a rare, but entirely predictable, weather event here we are bashing Ted Cruz.

What is the solution for Cruz’s lack of political sensitivity? Oh, I know, a democrat senator for Texas would make things much better.

As someone who has responded to disasters of this type I can tell you first-hand that the last thing you want are VIP’s running around pulling resources from those on the ground trying to help. While I suppose it makes for good media and politics if he ladles some soup at a kitchen or drops off bottled water somewhere it really does not amount to a hill of beans.

I am not even so much defending Cruz as simply pointing out how ridiculous it is that we expect congress to fix a problem within a powerful state. Cruz does not even make the top 1000 list of people responsible for this and yet the media is successfully using this story to deflect attention from the real failures in Texas and in their energy grid.

What is he supposed to do to end the problem? He can talk with his staff and help with constituent issues, but Senators rarely if ever get personally involved in those and he can do that by phone.

If this were Cory Booker the media would be fawning about how/why he is monitoring the situation by phone as he fulfills a promise to his daughters to take them on a vacation. Probably a bad example since Booker would be rushing to get in front of every camera he could find to blame Trump, but you get my intent.

“Look, I like Cruz. I’ll continue to vote for him. But he screwed up.”

Well put...we have no choice, except to Primary him out. If he couldn’t figure out that a trip to the tropics is not all that smart when your voters are literally freezing to death, then there’s really no hope for him.

Beto is a fool, pure and simple.
If he likes, he can challenge Ted Cruz in four year's time and he will still get clobbered yet again.

So plan a vacation...just don’t take it because yahoo is going to trash you?

The media will stop at nothing to hit Republicans...

Who cares about the media.

Last time I checked, this is a State matter...no?

My friend near Brownsville showed me a video yesterday...he doesn’t have power, but across the street the neighbors do.

Weird.

I don't need a NANNY STATE GOVERNMENT!! I don't need a public official to hold my hand in a natural disaster. I don't expect a public official to "pretend" to be concerned. I don't expect this site turn in to KAREN REPUBLIC! Ted Cruz can enjoy his vacation.

Why isn’t Beto calling for the national guard from Biden?

Why isn’t Beto calling for FEMA support?

Why is he “making a volunteer” effort to register voters?

The whole story is BS.

Unless he’s providing food and heat and support he’s doing NOTHING.

This is yahoo "news."

This is NOT a drastic blunder.

What could he do sitting in his house with power going off.

I wish I had thought of going someplace warm.

How many people actually did go to a better clime?

Besides, he may have promised his daughters a vacation after all the election stuff, if so, then it is perfectly justified.

Cruz just has to say that Beto was trying to take away senior’s AR-15s and standard capacity mags, the “negative optics of this narrative” will disappear quicker than an ERCOT board member can scrub their contact information ...

Cruz is a US Senator. He has no authority or authorization to get involved in state actions.

He has no power, no authority to intervene. He could go to the floor of the Senate and make a speech.

The governor and his staff and the power company are responsible.

I do not want Cruz wandering around the state of Texas, knocking on doors and such, as this would rightly be seen as a blatant political ploy, politicization of the problem.

Robert is a shame, failed political hack trying to grab some press.

Robert wasn’t recruited by ANY Texas university, so he approached my university (Texas State), offered his services as an unpaid adjunct political science teacher (not a professor). He’s a guy with just a B.Sci. in English Lit to teach university political science. Wow.

He was “hired” but will bnever be alone in the class, he will alweays have a full-time instructor over-seeing his actibities.

And Yahoo. . .up to their usual lying: “who have INACCURATELY placed most of the blame for the power failures on Texas’ renewable energy sources.”

25% of the Texas grid is powered by wind turbines, most all built in China and spare parts from there as well. So, they DID freeze and dropped power generation by a quarter and our grid was overwhelmed. Spare parts to repair fractured composites and tubing necessary for hydraulics circulation. . .China is back ordered with other customers in the world, so when China will deliver spares to repair what is broken? Who know. . .

Yes, we know all about “community organizing.” It’s not what people think it is.

I get the optics... but here’s the reality: Cruz is a Senator, not a local or State official.

Looks like Cruz stepped into it up to his eyeballs. He can’t do anything about the situation, and neither can Beto. All optics, all b.s. If Beto actually accomplishes anything that the state government has not already accomplished, then that is what needs to be worried about, for the state leaders.

How nice of Beto! Perhaps he can check to see if you are OK regarding the weather event, and while he is at you house, he can confiscate your AR rifle. Now that is what I call efficiency.
