Texas or South Carolina? Where is a good place to live?

Hi Freeps!

I need your help! Over ten years ago, I asked for some good locations in Washington State to live and you all came through and helped my family find a good place to live!

Now I'm here asking you all again. My husband and I are needing to either move to South Carolina or Texas. We just need to find a good location, not too close to any city, more rural area with good schools and hopefully more conservatives.

In Texas, we would like to live near either Dallas -Fort Worth, Amarillo, Lubbock or Midland. We just want to stay away from Austin or Huston.

In South Carolina, we really have no idea. Probably more inland away from the tourist areas.

Any help would be great, like areas to stay away from, etc.

Thank you so much!

I lived in North Texas along the red river border with Oklahoma. I had to flee when one year we had 100 days over 100 and lows in the 80s and 90s. It was absolutely miserable because there was no escape. Ironically the year before we got two feet of snow. I don’t care to ever set foot in that place again.

Where’s the most conservative big city in the U.S. with night life and everything you’ll find in a big city? I’ll say Miami due to Cubans living there.

If you like the SC “look” with trees, try Tyler Texas. Or the Hill Country for a cowboy vibe. DFW is good as well - but make sure to consider the far out suburbs on the north and northeast of Dallas, or the areas around (west?) of Fort Worth.

A lot of DFW suburbs are full of people from India.

Yes and if they’re like Dinesh D’Sousa that wouldn’t be bad at all.....I do believe he lives in my neck of the woods.....;)

I try to get to Fredericksburg every chance I get, I may retire there.

Nice vineyards for wine tastings, and some of the best German restaurants in the country.

I don’t moss Texas summers.

Moss doesn't do Texas summers either, it's too hot.

When my daughter got married her friends from Hillsdale came to stay with us. They took over the large bedrooms upstairs. Looked like dorm rooms. One of them asked before she came, "What is there to do in Dallas?" and I answered, "Well, there is shopping and there is eating."

With that I need to say that we have more restaurants per capita than NYC.

Texas is great. Don’t rule out Houston area. Stay north of Harris County. Montgomery county is conservative and Conroe is a reasonable sized city giving you access to Fun, Food, shopping, good schools, etc. It allows you to access Houston in 35-40 minutes (non-rush hour) for arts, sports and entertainment. Real estate is very affordable. Good highway system. Hot in the summer (not as bad as DFW), not as cold in the winter.
