I thought I would post the speech I’m giving tomorrow night at my son’s wedding. It’s a bit long but I don’t give a shiite, I only get do this once. Hopefully.
I’d like to thank Chelsea’s family and all the guests here for coming in these challenging times. When Tracy and I had Damian I was a long haired heavy metal musician who worked in high tech on the side. Tracy was an Italian Greek woman who could stop traffic and still can. I’m the last year of the boomer generation so we did it right, we got married, we bought our house and then we had Damian. By the way Damian, I’d recomend that path. Just saying. You mess that order up and it has consequences.
Damian was an amazingly intelligent kid and far mature for his age. I gave Damian a wide birth and he always made the right choice. Well 99% of the time. Long story.
I’m a man of few words. But let me declare this. I welcome Chelsea and all of her family into mine. Together we are stronger.
As someone who raised my son to be a perfect gentleman, I have to tell you Chelsea you have landed quite the catch! But you know who is even luckier? My son, for having found you. You are an exceptional person who means the world to Damian and you hold a special place in my heart because you are the woman who makes my son truly happy.
My hope for my son and his new bride are that they find the same comfort in each other that my wife and I find in each other every day. If you ever feel lost, look to each other for support and guidance. When you are happy and have achieved a dream, celebrate with each other. When you are sad comfort each other. When you are arguing, stop, take a deep breath, and hug each other.
Chelsea and Damian you know that I have been married for a long time. And while I can joke about the downsides of marriage, the little disagreements and the nuclear war that will inevitably happen, it is much more worthwhile to remember the benefits of marriage. Because when you are with the right person, the positives will always overwhelmingly outweigh the negatives. Together you are stronger.
Damian, my wish for you is that you and Chelsea have the same good fortune and love that has gotten your mother and I through all of these years, good and bad. May you always love each other and be full of patience and understanding. Be honest and loyal and good to each other. Laugh together. Cry together.
A child is the biggest blessing that I could have ever had in my life. Even though I am grateful for all of my family and friends, my child is the one who is closest to my heart. After all, he is a part of me. This is how I feel about Damian. Sometimes I wonder where the hell the last 23 years went, then I look at Damian and I remember, smile and know every second was worth it.
I have always wanted to see him happy. I always hoped that he would be successful in life, whether it was winning at sports as a kid or getting his dream job and getting married as an adult. No matter what, I always had his back and did whatever I could for him. And I root for him now as he begins a new journey. One of my biggest prayers for Damian was answered. Thank you, Chelsea.
As Damian’s father, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chelsea’s parents for raising such a wonderful young woman who loves my son so dearly. Nobody in this world can love him quite like you do. You seem to have brought out the best in Damian, you make him so happy, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
Let us all toast to the bride and groom!

Lovely speech. Wishing your son and his bride a long and happy marriage.
That was super! Prayer said for a very blessed union and life together for them.
"Two are better than one...
If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
...if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves."
(Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12)
A toast to your family on this joyous day...cheers! 🥂🍾

They’ll love it—and you!

Beautiful wedding speech.
I like this because you have used your own heart and words to encapsulate the covenant described by God in His Word. Both the covenant of marriage and the covenant between God and us.
You give them all the Word of God in the word of Snowybear! Most excellent. Heh, we all know who lives in your heart :)
Congratulations to you and yours Snowybear!
