Luxury chocolatier Godiva is getting out of the brick and mortar business.
The company is closing or selling all 128 of its brick-and-mortar stores in North America, it announced in a statement. It plans to complete the closures and sales by the end of March. Godiva will keep its stores open across Europe, Middle East and Greater China. The company did not disclose information on how many employees would be let go because of the closures. Less than two years ago, Godiva was planning a massive expansion by getting into the cafe business. The chocolatier opened its first cafe in the United States in New York City in April 2019 and announced that it planned on opening 10 more cafes in New York and more than 400 across the United States. It was part of a plan to open 2,000 new cafes around the world. But that plan never came to fruition. Godiva relied heavily on mall traffic, which has been plummeting even before the pandemic. The chocolatier's sales are largely driven by online purchases and purchases through Godiva's grocery, club and retail partners.

“Their chocolate is good but expensive in fancy box with very few pieces.”
Costco has in bags.
Overpriced, yes, but their chocolate is still pretty darned good 😌
We’re talking about chocolate here, you degenerate 😁😁
I like their coffee. Get it when it’s BOGO at my Publix.
Bought a bag of Godiva chocolates at Costco. They were OK, not particularly special. When I looked closely at the ingredients and saw hydrogenated oil I returned them. Certainly NOT a premium chocolate.
This is a crisis, less chocolate in the world! Give them a bail-out... too sweet to fail!
I sold Godiva when I worked at Bloomingdales as a teen and I was very popular I gave it out to all my peers....
Godiva is "Belgian Style", not Belgian chocolate. Although they started in Belgium, they were owned by Campbell's Soup from the 1960s to 2007 or so.
Anyone who’s undecided on what to get their significant other should look into a box of Godiva Chocolates.
It’s a Can’t Miss...
The Barnes & Noble at the local mall has displays of Godiva candy near the checkout lines. The candy bars are ok, but the chocolates are nothing special, and very pricey.
I like Godiva chocolate, but the best chocolate I’ve ever had by far was from La Maison du Chocolat. The first time I had it was after buying some from their shop in the mall underneath the Louvre in Paris. I remember how disappointed I was after I got home when my small supply eventually ran out, but I was thrilled to find out that they have a website, so it’s easy to buy it no matter where you are.
Only US stores are closing?
It must be the $15 minimum wage.
Not Lady Madonna.
I knew that!
Nice little packages if you couldn’t think of something else for a gift. Other than that I agree overpriced and not so spectacular as to justify the price. Born and bred in CA, give me See’s any day.
Best I could find.
Went to their site. Looks delicious! They are NOT inexpensive ; )
