Well, I am pretty disappointed with the police force in general in this country right now. I respect and admire the individual officers, don’t get me wrong. They had a tough job.
But as our cities burned or were taken over, where were the police unions and the police chiefs? I didn’t hear them raising the devil over this. I didn’t see the Baltimore police flex any muscle against the Baltimore mayor when the Freddie Gray riots were encouraged. They seemed to lay down and take the “watch it burn, give them room to destroy” orders without any push back. This just encourages the lawlessness and, I would think, makes their jobs harder in the future ... unless, of course, the police unions all agree that their job is really to round up those rascally conservatives who pick up their own trash as they go and do as they are told.
I guess I am just frustrated with the whole mess that’s been made.
Meanwhile, the police in my area are calling me for donations ... and telling me that they are recording me “for my protection.” (I am not given a choice.) Which means I am forced to either be recorded as I politely decline (which bothers me greatly) or rudely hang up without saying a word.

Acting United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams announced that John P. Gonzales, 61 of Milford, DE, was sentenced today to 20 months in prison and one year of supervised release by United States District Court Judge R. Barclay Surrick for his involvement in a bribery scheme to provide an Amtrak official with cash and vacations in exchange for lucrative federal contracts.
In February 2019, the defendant pleaded guilty to one count of federal program bribery. For a roughly two-year period from 2015 through 2017, Gonzales, an Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for a small Delaware-based manufacturing firm, bribed Timothy Miller, a Lead Contract Administrator working in procurement for the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (a/k/a “Amtrak”). Miller awarded more than $7.6 million in contracts to the defendant’s firm in exchange for bribes of approximately $20,000 and other things of value, including trips to Rehoboth Beach arranged by Gonzales and another executive at the firm.
“John Gonzales resorted to bribery to generate business for his firm, greasing the palm of an Amtrak employee,” said Michael J. Driscoll, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Division. “His corruption seemed to pay off for a time, yielding millions in government contracts. Ultimately, of course, those actions have cost him dearly. If you’re going after taxpayer dollars dishonestly, if you’re trampling all over what’s intended to be a level playing field, you too can earn yourself a stay in federal prison.”
The case was investigated by the Amtrak Office of Inspector General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U. S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General, and the Internal Revenue Service. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Eric L. Gibson.............NIKK..edited.

Nigeria’s central bank says it banned cryptocurrency over money laundering concerns
The Central Bank of Nigeria has explained why it banned cryptocurrency-related transactions in the country, claiming the digital currency is used for money laundering and terrorism.
The regulator said this in a statement Sunday, days after affirming a 2017 directive to financial institutions to block cryptocurrency accounts.
The decision has sparked outrage from mostly young people in a country that is the world’s second-biggest user of virtual currencies like Bitcoins.
The statement by Osita Nwanisobi, Acting Director, Corporate Communications, said the ban on such transactions will not have any negative impact on fintechs.
“The use of cryptocurrencies in Nigeria are a direct contravention of existing law,” the statement said. “It is also important to highlight that there is a critical difference between a Central Bank issued Digital Currency and cryptocurrencies. As the names imply, while Central Banks can issue Digital Currencies, cryptocurrencies are issued by unknown and unregulated entities,” Mr Nwanisobi said.
“The question that one may need to ask therefore is, why any entity would disguise its transactions if they were legal,” he added.
“It is on the basis of this opacity that cryptocurrencies have become well-suited for conducting many illegal activities including money laundering, terrorism financing, purchase of small arms and light weapons, and tax evasion.
“Many banks and investors who place a high value on reputation have been turned off from cryptocurrencies because of the damaging effects of the widespread use of cryptocurrencies for illegal activities.
“The role of cryptocurrencies in the purchase of hard and illegal drugs on the darknet website called “Silk Road” is well known. They have also been recent reports that cryptocurrencies have been used to finance terror plots, further damaging its image as a legitimate means of exchange.
“More also, repeated and recent evidence now suggests that some cryptocurrencies have become more widely used as speculative assets rather than as means of payment, thus explaining the significant volatility and variability in their prices.”
California Twentynine Palms: Explosives are missing from the nation’s largest Marine Corps base and an investigation is underway
Explosives are missing from the nation’s largest US Marine Corps base, according to military officials who said Tuesday an investigation is underway.
Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms in San Bernardino County, California, notified the Morongo Basin Station of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department last week, but a department spokesperson told CNN it was not asked to assist with the investigation.
Officials at the Twentynine Palms base could not immediately be reached for comment. The base is located about 150 miles east of Los Angeles in the southern Mojave Desert.
Marines and sailors from different units have been participating in training exercises at the Twentynine Palms base since January 15. The training is scheduled to conclude on February 18.

They weren’t happy in the cities that cut the police budget. The Seattle police chief quit over that. I think every police union endorsed Trump.
Of course, with the massive news filter/suppression, who knows. I am probably being unfair. Just so frustrated. Perhaps there were sickouts, etc. Clearly the total skunks running everything are undaunted.
The various police departments have had an uptick in officers retiring since then. Of course, not all can do that.
