they attempted to label my son in third grade as “delayed” because he wouldnt sound out the letters and words like the teacher wanted him to. Hw would sit quietly, looking at the words, then spit out the entire sentence instead of one word. Damned teachers are the delayed ones!!
No way would I put any grandchild of mine in a public school. One reason I have an extensive library. I prefer any spawn of my sons never set foot in a public school.

most math and finance teachers I remember, especially in college, had their back to the class, writing on the board and talking to themselves. It was a joke. Thank goodness we had labs. I actually worked in a college lab and helped people, until I was hired to teach ESL. And I helped some of my fellow students get through math. I’m not a math genius but there are basic rules, and understanding of the problem helps a lot.

Where I lived in CA some school districts discontinued gifted or advanced classes because it wasn’t fair that few minorities couldn’t test into them.

One of the classes I took at one of the teacher’s seminars I attended when I was teaching at the college was on the different ways people learn. We took tests and I was high on the scale of visual. I learned why I drew pictures or scribbled while listening to lecture, so teachers shouldn’t punish students for “not listening”, and I learned that the ability to spell is like musical or artistic ability, just a brain function and not a question of intelligence. Good news for me as I always tested high on IQ, but never could spell.

Learning something new like a craft of a new computer application, I hate videos. I pick up much better reading the instructions and methods. I also do not like the images on buttons on car dashboards. Even though they morphed from words to pictures decades ago, I still want to see the words.

I used to help my grandson with his math homework and caught his 3rd grade teacher teaching common core math, and told her Texas hadn’t approved it. I had him and his sister learn multiplication tables, etc.

I have 10 grandchildren and two of them went to public schools in California. When the one grandson was in 4th grade, I went to visit, and he was telling ne how evil corporations are. Ugh!

lol, me too! The pictures on the buttons mean nothing to me, I want the words. And I liked computer operating systems when it wasn’t so “user friendly”.
