Found out about this at work; WHY do you need a ‘special enrollment period’ for people uninsured in the pandemic to enroll in the Marketplace, when the OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD for the Marketplace just ended December 15 and you could enroll without any qualifying reason.
Anyone who has lost their insurance due to a loss of employment (pandemic or no) has a SPECIAL QUALIFYING REASON to enroll at that time. If you lose insurance mid-year due to certain reasons, you don’t have to wait to enroll. But the average Joe probably doesn’t know this.

PETA mocked on social media for claiming insults like ‘pig,’ ‘chicken’ hurt animals
People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, was mocked on social media this week for a tweet that argued calling someone names like a “pig,” “chicken” or a “snake” is hurtful to the animals themselves.
“Words can create a more inclusive world, or perpetuate oppression,” the animal rights organization wrote Tuesday in a tweet that was pinned to its page. “Calling someone an animal as an insult reinforces the myth that humans are superior to other animals & justified in violating them. Stand up for justice by rejecting supremacist language.”
A chart in the tweet showed examples of animal-related insults that it felt were “harmful” and “inaccurate.”
It included “chicken” for a coward, “rat” for a snitch,” “snake” for a jerk, “pig” for someone who is repulsive and “sloth” for a lazy person.
PETA also urged its followers to consider, in general, not insulting anyone – human or animal.
After that, the insults came quickly.....

Biden brother touts relationship with president in Inauguration Day ad for law firm
Frank Biden is a non-attorney senior advisor for the Berman Law Group. The firm is based in Boca Raton, Florida. Its ad featuring Frank Biden was printed in the Jan. 20 edition of the Daily Business Review, which is also based in Florida.
The ad focuses on a lawsuit the firm is leading against a group of Florida sugar cane companies. It features a photo of Frank Biden, along with quotes regarding his relationship with the incoming president and the family name.
In an email to CNBC, Frank Biden said he has not used his brother’s name to gain clients.
The focus of the ad is to promote the firm’s work on a class-action lawsuit against a group of sugar cane growers in southern Florida. The ad and Biden himself highlight the relationship to his brother, who is now the president, as a reason to work with the firm.
“The two Biden brothers have long held a commitment to pushing environmental issues to the forefront; the president-elect has vowed to rejoin the Paris Agreement and wants to set ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets, for example,” the ad in the paper says.
“My brother is a model for how to go about doing this work,” Frank Biden says in the ad. “One of his central tenets is that one should never question another man’s or woman’s motives or assign blame to them. That way, you avoid creating a disparity that prevents any kind of coming together. You can of course question someone’s judgement, and that’s what we’re doing by bringing this to court.”
The ad suggests that the firm hired Frank Biden due to the “Biden reputation for and motivation to engage in philanthropic, social and environmental issues that presented themselves.”
It then lists the 800 phone number for the firm, along with contact information for Frank Biden and the firm’s founders. Beyond class-action suits, the firm’s website says, it specializes in corporate law, real estate law and government relations, among others.
This isn’t the first time Frank Biden has touted his family name while his brother was in a position of power.

ROBINHOOD PUTS KIBOSH ON TRADING
... Retail Investors Cry Foul
As of Thursday morning ... Robinhood customers can no longer buy Gamestop stock on the free-trading app, thereby blocking members of the WallStreetBets forum on Reddit. Of course, that group of investors sparked the resurgence of GameStop’s stock.
It also aimed to do the same for AMC, Nokia, BlackBerry, Naked Brands and a few other stocks ... but Robinhood’s unlisted those too!
In making the move, Robinhood emailed customers warning of “the current volatile market conditions.” The notice stated, “It’s as important as ever to be an informed investor,” and included links to its investment resources.
Of course, this has infuriated customers who believe this is market manipulation favoring the hedge funds that have shorted stocks like GameStop... and hurting retail investors who are backing them.
As one person on Twitter put it ... “The free market is only free until rich people lose money.”
As we reported, GameStop’s stock price has surged to $350 this week — after starting the year at $19 — thanks to the backing of retail investors encouraged by the WallStreetBets group.
By Robinhood blocking trading on Thursday, the general feeling among the public is that the financial services company is siding with the hedge fund people on Wall Street ... and screwing over the little guy.
This could get ugly.
