I used to visit this forum years ago and I recently felt impressed that I should come back and share some info.
I am a software engineer by trade. I write code. I've worked for many big tech companies over the years. Last year I worked for a well known big tech company on a year long contract. I worked on the software that searches all social media platforms and collects the data on you.
Facebook, Twitter, et all, have back doors called APIs that allow authorized entities to request data. And that data is then packed up and sent to the requestor. This is done using the Elastic Search technology. And I don't mean a little data, I mean all of it, terabytes worth.
If you post a message about your dream vacation to Detroit, it's scanned. If words in your post match the criteria they are looking for, all your info is packed and passed to the requestor. It gets worse. The technology is now available to scan photos and pick out images that match as well. If you post a picture that has some where in the image, let's say a logo on your shirt, the software can find it. I haven't been on Facebook in a year and I deleted my account. I asked my boss if he was "ok" with what we were doing. He said to me, "Look, I just keep my head down, it's a job."
This is not hear-say. I was a SDET or Software Developer in Test. It was my job to write automation code that tested the search algorithm. In other words, if 50k people "Liked" a video or an image, that we would get back all that data as expected.
Part of that testing was posting images FB, Twitter, etc, that contained an item. Then making sure the code found that item, the image was flagged and the data on it was returned to me as expected. So if you have a picture that contains a Christian cross some where in the image and they want to put you on a list, they can find it that quick. Or anything else they want to find.
Stay off social media platforms. I deleted all my accounts, you should too.

Never had a social media account and have been belittled at times for it.
Turns out, maybe one of the smarter things I’ve ever done.
I’ve always been amused to hear Freepers warn us about social media...on Free Republic, which itself is a social media site!
FR is more or a message board than social media network. But if Twitter counts as social media, you could argue the same for FR.
An edit function, even if it were a 2-minute clock, would be great. You really can leave any time you find yourself dissatisfied.
Too late :^)
Most of us are nobodies. They’ve done everything they wanted regardless of what we’ve said. Why bother?
“Is it? “
Of course it is! Anyone can sign up and lurk or comment, just like facebook or twitter.
We even zot people that don’t toe the line, (ie, meet our “standards”)
Thought it had a different classification.
But if you do the same image pasting with no internet connection then there are no suggestions. The image analysis is being done in some Microsoft data center, meaning the image you pasted gets inspected by code. Who knows where else that code sends information about the image you are pasting on your own computer.

You can click the report abuse tab under your post and ask to have the post depleted.
It will be gone in 15 minutes, tops.
I’ve done it myself.
Probably no more vulnerable than a normal internet connection.
But you’re dealing with evil people... you can’t put anything passed them.
Well... Parlor until Amazon trashed it.
I think Daily Wire is creating one.
But anything attached to anything “Woke” is coming after you. I don’t want to sound over the top, but can anyone deny it’s true??
It’s depressing but the answer is, no.
Neither have I....However if you use Google they’re huge data gatherers.
However if you have kids , friends, other family members there's no telling if 'they've put up' you're photos of information about you.....and you can bet your bank and Insurance companies, and Dr.s do.
We’re going to end up without box store shopping, it’ll all be shop on line and pick up/deliver as we see the trend going already. They may have box store ‘displays’ to look at but you’ll still order on line.....thus they will obtain control of buying and selling.
Baloney..........I always get e-mails answered by the owner or those assisting him.
