I used to visit this forum years ago and I recently felt impressed that I should come back and share some info.
I am a software engineer by trade. I write code. I've worked for many big tech companies over the years. Last year I worked for a well known big tech company on a year long contract. I worked on the software that searches all social media platforms and collects the data on you.
Facebook, Twitter, et all, have back doors called APIs that allow authorized entities to request data. And that data is then packed up and sent to the requestor. This is done using the Elastic Search technology. And I don't mean a little data, I mean all of it, terabytes worth.
If you post a message about your dream vacation to Detroit, it's scanned. If words in your post match the criteria they are looking for, all your info is packed and passed to the requestor. It gets worse. The technology is now available to scan photos and pick out images that match as well. If you post a picture that has some where in the image, let's say a logo on your shirt, the software can find it. I haven't been on Facebook in a year and I deleted my account. I asked my boss if he was "ok" with what we were doing. He said to me, "Look, I just keep my head down, it's a job."
This is not hear-say. I was a SDET or Software Developer in Test. It was my job to write automation code that tested the search algorithm. In other words, if 50k people "Liked" a video or an image, that we would get back all that data as expected.
Part of that testing was posting images FB, Twitter, etc, that contained an item. Then making sure the code found that item, the image was flagged and the data on it was returned to me as expected. So if you have a picture that contains a Christian cross some where in the image and they want to put you on a list, they can find it that quick. Or anything else they want to find.
Stay off social media platforms. I deleted all my accounts, you should too.

I signed off FB YEARS ago...and deleted the app on my new phone.
Have been watching church services because they have had open access. Then, blam, couldn’t see them anymore. Requires me to sign up.
That means we’d have to get off FR - it’s social media, too.
are there any social media platforms that are safe?
Yes, Gab, Parler, if it ever returns, Odysee, bitchute, mewe i’m not sure about.
Yes, indeed. Thanks! Users should also look for and focus on browser, e-mail, phone and general network privacy.
Thanks for the info!
You will have no impact here, these people are convinced it is better to 'stay in touch with relatives' on FB than genuinely worry about 'you-are-the-product' and how your non-FB traffic is sold to Big Daddy, Big 3, the Big 5, Big Pharma, Big Med, Big Big Big sooey.
They won't relinquish FB because they cannot get their minds around the idea that the US would allow any company to 'spy' on them. LOFL.
Thank you for your “vanity”!
How does one erase “social media” history most effectively?
Isn’t this social media?
google-analytics.com
Worst 3rd party API anyone could have attached to their domain. The premier of spy ware.
There are several open source analytics software packages that one can install in their own server local admin that are not dependent on or hooked to google services.
Walmart is an alternative to amazon, they have EVERYTHING.
And seed is a horrible diet for a parrot, check out a pelleted diet...seeds are way too fatty and most parrots prefer what is on your dinner plate anyway.
Thank You I was here for the IRS audits. I did receive a letter from the IRS telling me to file, sorry, I didnt have a job, whatever Mr Clint toon.
Here's some of what Facebook was forced to display by Apple's new data security policy:
Is it only if you have an account?
How about if you view other people’s Twitter or Facebook posts/pages?
Other than here I’m never on any social media. Nobody in their right mind puts their life on the internet.

Back in the Obama days the Feds built 4 separate digital data storage facilities at a cost of 4 billion each. That’s a lot of hard drive. I have no doubt they capture every digital online transmission and every cell phone transmission including the audio conversation. It is integrated with the massive federal databases of all banking, medical, credit/ debit card purchases and other details of your daily life. It is stored in a database searchable by word, names etc. and easily filterable to the smallest detail. They may not be spying on you in particular but if your name ever popped up on their radar they could know your whole life in minutes. In sound and video.
Great post. Question: what is considered social media? Is FreeRepublic included? Are other forums that have members only sections included?
I never joined Facebook, Twitter, none of them. I joined Parler in June, but never completed verification to get a badge, so my personal info was never in their hands. I use thedonald.com, which they know the FBI visits. They have threads dedicated to the FBI agents to peruse the site. I went over there this morning, and from what I understand, last night CBS reported on thedonald.win, using the term c*nt to describe Pelosi. I originally found the site via “Salty Cracker” who up until recently was posting videos on YouTube. But because they were yanking his videos, he moved to Rumble, Odysee, BitChute, and DLive. He mostly posts on Odysee and BitChute. He was regularly live-streaming three nights a week, but his internet connections became inconsistent, and had to stop streaming for a few days until they could get it fixed. I head to thedonald.com first thing in the morning to get my spirits up. They post some funny $hit over there. I’m 73, I don’t give a rat’s ass who’s checking my comments on the internet. The photos I upload are memes I’ve found on other sites. No personal or family pictures have ever been upload to any site.
