Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has indicated that he believes that impeaching President Donald Trump will make it easier to get rid of the President and Trumpism from the Republican Party, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.
Another person with direct knowledge told CNN there's a reason McConnell has been silent on impeachment as other Republicans have pushed back: he's furious about last week's attack on the US Capitol by the President's supporters, even more so that Trump has shown no contrition. His silence has been deliberate as he leaves open the option of supporting impeachment.
McConnell has made no commitments on voting to convict Trump, and wants to see the article itself before voting. It's a stark contrast to the President's first impeachment, when McConnell repeatedly spoke out against Democratic intentions to hold Trump accountable for a pressure campaign on the Ukrainian government to investigate Joe Biden and his family.
McConnell has been steadily moving his conference away from Trump for weeks. While he knows they all aren't there with him, the Kentucky Republican believes the party needs to turn the page.
Several GOP sources said on Tuesday that if McConnell supports conviction, Trump almost certainly will be convicted by 67 senators in the impeachment trial. "If Mitch is a yes, he's done," said one Senate GOP source who asked not to be named.

i know what they are thinking...that before the next election in 2 years, Trump will not be in politics and will be long gone....

They want to keep us seeing the forest, because of the trees. McConnell is a tree. Liz Cheney is a tree. Impeachment is a tree, etc, etc, etc.
What is the big picture? This is a HUGE and well coordinated psy-ops operation that is designed to make us confused, demoralized, and alone. They want to paralyze us with indecision, doubt, and guilt-especially guilt.
What can we do? We can start by recognizing that WE are the majority in this country-perhaps in almost every state. We also need to realize that “they” are actually more afraid than we are. They know that much of what we are hearing and reading, is just to support their grand illusion of reality. Just look at Pelosi’s desperate push for the 25th Amendment to be rushed through the Congress. We need to see how many others around us feel like we do, but have been afraid to go public. I suggest a miles-long series of peaceful, patriotic parades of Trump/America supporting caravans on the interstates or main thoroughfares in towns and cities all across our country on January 20th-whenever it decided upon. Think of what the potential that would do for people that have heard nothing but negative news for the past week. Anyone out there reading this across this nation-explore this idea, and perhaps run with it.

Just goes to show the stupidity of the GOP. Might help rid trump from the Party but who cares. GOP is dead. They just don’t know it yet. A New Party with Trumps 75mm members will bankrupt the GOP. If Ivanka runs for Florida Senate, the new Party can be born with her run.
