Battle of San Jacinto
On April 21, 1836, during Texas’ war for independence from Mexico, the Texas militia under Sam Houston (1793-1863) launched a surprise attack against the forces of Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna (1794-1876) at the Battle of San Jacinto, near present-day Houston, Texas. The Mexicans were thoroughly routed, and hundreds were taken prisoner, including Santa Anna. In exchange for his freedom, Santa Anna signed a treaty recognizing Texas’ independence.

The key to the Alamo reference is the follow-up two months later at San Jacinto, when the Texans and a huge army of American volunteers swooped down on Santa Anna's army screaming "Remember the Alamo", and delivered a righteous obliteration.

My take on the Alamo discussion is that while the battle was lost it held up the Mexican Army long enough to allow the remaining Texans to consolidate and organize appropriately. It was a HUGE strategic win both motivationally and logistically for Texas.

The only thing she said her husband told her was never ever go to D.C. the minute you step out of the truck they both felt the evil and when things started going south, they got in their truck and came back...they couldn't get out of there fast enough...
