I remember something I always wanted to ask you guys - about the word ‘delta’. Obviously, I know what’s meant by the one-year delta between Q drops or one-minute delta with a Trump tweet, but my question is “why ‘delta’?”
I had never heard the word ‘delta’ used that way before, so I looked it up, and there were the usual things: river delta, the Greek letter, a triangular shape; but I could never find a definition of ‘delta’ that fit the context of a timestamp delta, as used here. Does anyone know how that got started?
I await answers.
“MIL is the only way.”
That would be “Q+”.
Military own the term “Delta”.

Change
Upper-case delta (Δ) often means “change” or “the change in” in mathematics. For example, if the variable “x” stands for the movement of an object, then “Δx” means “the change in movement.” Scientists use this mathematical meaning of delta often in physics, chemistry, and engineering, and it appears often in word problems.

What Does Delta Mean? ... Difference is the most common meaning of the uppercase delta. It is simply the difference, or change, in a certain quantity. When we say delta y, for example, we mean the change in y or how much y changes. Discriminant is the second most common meaning of the uppercase delta.
General term from math & physics for a change in a given measure, say, in this case, time.

Woo hoo! A calculus slide.
Delta signifies change in value.
Typically a moving change; a range of increase/decrease.
In defining the intercept or slope of a line.
In determining time differences.
Calculations defining vessel pressure over a range of volumes and temperatures.

Think military and mathematics. The “Delta” is the change from one value to another. When used in an op the Delta would be a new zero hour to kick things off.

Definition of delta (Entry 1 of 5)
1 : the 4th letter of the Greek alphabet
— see ALPHABET TABLE
2 : something shaped like a capital Greek delta
especially, geology : the alluvial deposit at the mouth of a river
the Mississippi Delta
3 mathematics : an increment of a variable —symbol Δ
So I’m the case of Q, Delta would mean an increment

Delta is change of any variable over and/or including time
Usually mathematically represented by a triangle. Delta V is acceleration, P - pressure, etc...
Delta symbol = pyramid?
You got me looking into that alphabet when you posted about Delta and I got distracted, noticed that upper case horseshoe looking letter at the end, that means Omega and then I remembered where I saw that word and symbol. President Kennedy’s Wristwatch and Coin.
President John F. Kennedy Omega

I loved finding this out. Thanks 17strings.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_alphabet
The Greek alphabet has been used to write the Greek language since the late ninth or early eighth century BC.[3][4] It is derived from the earlier Phoenician alphabet,[5] and was the first alphabetic script in history to have distinct letters for vowels as well as consonants. In Archaic and early Classical times, the Greek alphabet existed in many local variants, but, by the end of the fourth century BC, the Euclidean alphabet, with twenty-four letters, ordered from alpha to omega, had become standard and it is this version that is still used to write Greek today. These twenty-four letters (each in uppercase and lowercase forms) are: Α α, Β β, Γ γ, Δ δ, Ε ε, Ζ ζ, Η η, Θ θ, Ι ι, Κ κ, Λ λ, Μ μ, Ν ν, Ξ ξ, Ο ο, Π π, Ρ ρ, Σ σ/ς, Τ τ, Υ υ, Φ φ, Χ χ, Ψ ψ, and Ω ω.
