This was either an intentional loss by NYJ or Gregg Williams should be fired immediately.

There is NO Defensive coordinator at any level of coaching that would call that defense in that situation. There is no way you would ever allow Henry Ruggs to be covered one on one with no safety over the top at that point of the game unless you were trying to lose the game or your job.

The more obvious conclusion is that the Jets defensive coordinator is a moron.

This.

The Def coordinator rushed 7 and had no safety help deep for the cornerback.

13 seconds / 50 yards / and the Raiders needed a TD.

Only 1 objective - don’t get beat deep.

Jets fail.

The NFL has been WWE with helmets for a couple of decades now. Why is anybody surprised that they are getting careless?

Umm, losing on purpose is nothing new when draft picks are on the line. The jets want the first draft pick.

Please, does anyone actually believe the NFL isn’t just as fake as professional wrestling anymore?

It’s called “Prevent Defense”. I think John Madden once said that it prevents the the team that uses it from winning.

This was the exact opposite of a prevent defense. The Jets rushed 6, had the safety move up as a spy on the QB, and went one on one with the Raiders Receivers with no safety over the top. Henry Ruggs is the fastest player in the NFL and ran right by the Jets QB for an easy TD.

A prevent defense is rush 3 or 4, zone coverage underneath, and drop 3 or 4 safeties deep to prevent receivers from getting by them.

I don’t.

Although I do think shady stuff happens all the time.

Good Luck, Trevor. He has been very very good to me with his prowess. And I enjoy watching him play.

Rumor on NY sports radio/TV is that the JETS will draft Trevor Lawrence and Bill Cowher will follow as head coach/general manager.

And they are not fixing who wins they game, they are wanting the points to hit a certain side of the spread.

The play didn't affect the vast majority of bettors whop go with point spread. Only a tiny fraction would play odds-on-winner, teasers, and propositional bets.

It wasn't Murphy, but someone had a law suggesting that we not impute bad will when stupidity is an adequate explanation.

If the Jets wanted to lose, they NEVER would have been up 28-24 over the Raiders in the first place.

The Jets don’t need to ‘throw’ games...they just need to show up. Same result.

Kyle Trask is the favorite to win the Heisman in sports betting but all the talk is about Trevor Lawrence and the draft.

Trevor is 1200 to 1 to win Heisman.

Trevor Lawrence is nuts if he doesn't pull an Eli Manning and refuse to sign with the Jets.

Yup. John Elway with the Colts, too. We will never know how many great quarterback careers were nipped in the bud by the Jets, Lions, Browns, etc.

While I agree with the Madden quote you cited, in this case it was pretty much the exact opposite of a prevent defense that led to the winning TD. The Jets called an all out blitz leaving their CB in single man on man coverage. The blitz was picked up by the Raiders and the CB got beat for the long TD.

Prevent defenses generally involve rushing 3 or maybe 4 and dropping everyone else into a soft zone coverage with the intent of allowing short completions and tackling the receiver inbounds to both prevent big plays and keep the clock running. The defense actually called was either a fairly unconventional play call that failed miserably or an intentional tank job that succeeded. Either way, it wasn’t a prevent defense.

Exact opposite occurred.

The play where Ruggs caught the long TD pass was an all-out blitz. All the Jets had to do was keep receivers in front of them and secure the win so prevent D would of worked.
Lawrence will probably stay for his Senior year if he doesn't like the team with the first or second pick. Jets and Jaguars will probably have to tank again next year.

Well this play definitely defies any logic other than we want to lose..

Just a prevent needed and make this play call? Even most jr defensive coordinator would not make this call.

That’s why they need to make it that the four worst teams are then randomly drawn to determine the order, so there’s no guarantee of the worst team getting the first pick.

Why reward failure, that’s what Communism does. At least in soccer, a bad team gets relegated.
