Linda Barnes and her husband had to visit six charging stations as one after another they were either out of order, already had a queue or were the slow, older versions that would never be able to provide a fast enough charge in the time.
The couple, who love their new fully electric Porsche Taycan 4S, which has a range of about 250 miles, contacted the Guardian to describe how difficult it is to recharge a car away from home. Their journey would have taken two and a half hours in a conventional car, they say.
Linda says the sense of relief was enormous. “We ran through the entire gamut of emotions in those nine hours – resignation, range anxiety, annoyance and disbelief that this was happening – and finally elation when we realised we’d get home,” she says.

I have a diesel that can do 810 highway miles ...
The kraut heads at Volkswagen, have destroyed the diesel engine, as we know it. Period.
What are you going to replace with?
Our gas Suburban also exceeded 800 miles on a tank.
They are lucky they aren’t in California, when they got home they might not have power.
Charge at home. Have no problem finding stations on road trips. The bigger the battery the bigger the store and the quicker charge time.
I have a top end Mercedes and honestly would love to see them come out with some affordable electric options as well as self drive technology. But I swear Mercedes must make a huge amount of their money on maintenance lol. So are taking their time. (Mercedes has a self drive futuristic concept car that will take awhile to make and it looks very expensive. But we'll see when it comes out. California's totalitarian car laws will have pushed that production up.)
Also Tesla has the self drive functionality. A lower level one just comes with the car and a full version if you pay a lot more for it. Either way. More innovative than my Mercedes. It would be fun and inexpensive to own a Tesla in California anyway. My only gripe was years ago when I sat in their high end one. The interiors weren't up to even close to Mercedes luxury. But they will get close eventually. I will be test driving one soon though. So hopefully that's improved for us diva types lol. Good luck with making your decision. :D
The thing that jumped out at me with this article is that a massive number of the chargers were out of order.
Same here. An electric is SO limited in its uses (living in an urban area), that for the life of me, I don't see any practical purpose.
“We ran through the entire gamut of emotions in those nine hours – resignation, range anxiety, annoyance and disbelief that this was happening – and finally elation when we realised we’d get home,”
Spinless, pussy-ass bitches.
I’d bet that, all things being even, most people would prefer the quiet, smoothness and power of electrics but as things stand today I don’t want to start worrying about power consumption if I need to have any or all of the power options on.
Because you stopped to flirt with all the girls that were interested in your Porsche?
Probably turned on the heater, lights and radio.
Well, wouldn’t you think that the author of this piece would ask questions about this? I would have.
If all you do is local, who cares what you drive. Even a 78 Impala won’t cost much to drive
No charging stations
Plus electric vehicles use more energy than the good old internal combustion car
We normally go from Maryland to Michigan for a couple weeks at Christmas. This year we’re deviating to Orlando to see my mom then up to Michigan then home. Total will be 3000 miles.
I couldn’t imagine stopping every 150 miles for a few hours of charging.
We’re deadheading with four drivers of which two will be the majority.
Have a good, SAFE trip..............
Is that from Rush Limbaugh's parody?
There’s a name for those things. Golf Cart.
Of course it was.
I had a cousin who was derelict enough to get her Yugo repossessed.
