Band of Brothers is showing on the History Channel
Did you see, in Normandy, in the villages south of the beach, in the churches, where the stained glass windows had been blown out by the German army, they were replaced with stained galas windows with images of Airborne paratroopers coming down like angels?
The best one is when Winters says, 'Oh, for crying out loud.'
Thank you for heads up for the best series. Tom Hanks and Spielberg let the writers and producers do justice to these heroes and the Stephen Ambrose account.
My BOB touring friend just last week said, about this threat of takeover by globalist elitists, that we were holding the line like Easy Company in Bastogne.
My favorite episode is coming, Episode 4 Crossroads.
Back in May of 2018, I went on the Band of Brothers Tour, 2-weeks, started in Atlanta, visited Toccoa, Ga, then over night flight to London, Ferry Crossing to France, all over Normandy, then Holland, Bastogne, Dachau Concentration Camp and ending up in Berchesgarten and a trip up the mountain to the Eagles Nest......
An Epic once in a lifetime visit...
Hard to disagree...the episode where they discovered the concentration camp was absolutely incredible.
Lol!
Actually Episode 5 is crossroads. My mistake
Said Albert Blithe died of his wounds in 1948. Wrong. Died in 1967 as a Master Sergeant.
Saw all those.
Visiting with a tour group has advantages if you’ve never been there. There are disadvantages, though.
Our bus passed quite a few museums I wished we’d been able to visit, and there were locations where I wish we could’ve spent more time.
So, two years later, I went back by myself. I took the ferry to Cherbourg and rented a car. I was able to visit where I wanted, when I wanted, as often as I wanted, for as long as I wanted. I confined my travels to Normandy only, and spent ten days exploring. And I got to visit all the museums. There are quite a few. The best part of the trip was being completely alone in the Cemetery for almost an hour early in the morning. It was unforgettable.
Two years after that, I spent ten days in Bastogne.
I went back to Normandy a year later and found more out-of-the-way battle sites. If it wasn’t so difficult to post pictures on FR, I’d post pictures.
I am just glad I went in 2018, 2019 was the 75th Anniversary and was insanely more expensive and now 2020 every thing is cancelled and who knows when it’s coming back
The more I watched this the more I’m starting not to like the series.
For instance
What was the purpose of the Lt. Dyke episode? He is made so over the top incompetent it’s beyond ridiculous. If you read up on him his portrayal was totally false. He previously won medal(s) for valor and he didn’t freeze in battle because he was scared, he “froze” because he took an enemy shot to the gut.
Even if true and he really was like that, so what, what’s the point of making a whole episode just to smear someone who died in the line of duty 50+ years ago? It really doesn’t progress the story. I can only image how his family must be sad and horrified seeing their relative they lost portrayed in such a way.
And don’t get me started on the last episode, it’s obvious Hanks and Speilberg just couldn’t resist showing American soldiers as rampaging thugs and murderers.
Spent a lot of time in Normandy. Bastogne too.
At the end of Crossroads, Easy Company going into the forest at night, I have to stand.
The name was Herbert Sobel.
After the war Sobel returned to Chicago, started a career (can’t remember what in), married and started a family.
Losing Easy company however dogged him until his last breath. He died a divorced and bitter old man whose funeral was attended by only the priest and the gravediggers.
He was often invited to E company reunions but never attended.
Schwimmer was fantastic in the role of Sobel. He pulled it off perfectly.
Surprisingly clean, all things considered. A couple of F bombs and some rough language here and there but pretty clean overall.
Your FIL will probably understand.
Not any more than necessary. In episode 9 after they’ve taken Germany A little bit of horrible Porn. Avoid it
It is the best movie. Period.
Thank you all for your replies. I have it on, he hasn’t gotten into it yet, but once he does he would probably like it. He is really enjoying Hill Street Blues at the moment, lol.
He didn’t fight in any wars, but he did contract with NASA on weaponry and loves all things history
I think in some ways, The Pacific was better.
Made the European theater look like a cakewalk, in comparison.
I’m a girl and I’m watching it again with the girls in my family, as usual. It is way up in the top three for best film
