its not earthshattering..it is probably a lark..or LARP as they call it.
As far as I know, Japan used to use the same word 美国 for America. When Japanese militarists took over, America was perceived as an enemy. It irked them that 美 is contained in the name. So they changed it to 米. I heard it from multiple sources. So it is probably true.
How do we know that this is not an American living abroad that sent their ballot via courier? Is there evidence showing that thousands of ballots arrived in bulk this way???
