Men discover mysterious metal monolith in Utah wilderness, immediately touch it

General rule of thumb for when you stumble upon something weird: Don’t touch it. Especially if it’s a big-ass metal structure of unknown (though, okay, likely human) origin. But that’s exactly what the folks on a sheep-counting expedition (truly) in a remote area of southern Utah did over the weekend. As reported by local NBC affiliate KSL TV, a helicopter crew from the Utah Department Of Public Safety was assisting Division Of Wildlife officers on a mission to count bighorn sheep last week when a biologist spotted a large metal structure on the ground and told them to circle back. Reminiscent of the monolith from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, this metal structure is said to be about 10 to 12 feet high and looks as though it was planted—not dropped—into the ground.

“We were kind of joking around that if one of us suddenly disappears, then the rest of us make a run for it,” said pilot Bret Hutchings. “We were, like, thinking is this something NASA stuck up there or something. Are they bouncing satellites off it or something?” Hutchings also noted the similarity to 2001 and posited that the monolith could’ve been made by “some new wave artist or something.”

“AV Club”?

I always get my news from the Audio Visual Club.

Unless they are rewinding a filmstrip or something.

I hope it renews and comes back.

bad thing about those shows.....they never really resolve anything
just keep you tuning in for their next heavily edited release of something found or discovered.....
But nothing ever resolved

I used to watch "the curse of oak island" but after a few years, decided that "DAMN, in this amount of time they could have dug out the entire island.......

Something that should NOT have been poked with a stick.

You are so right.

I gave up on Oak Island.

IMO, they should just throw the bare-faced twin down the pit and fulfill the prophecy.

Then the bearded twin would be rich.

/damn, that is dark *and* cold

:D

I’m hooked on all the “fill in the blank” caught on video shows.

Why on earth would one be reluctant to touch a metal structure? Is there precedence for monoliths killing people as a result of touching them? I don’t understand. I sure as hell would touch it. That would be the first thing I’d do.
But I’ve never seen 2001. IS that what this is about? But even so, why would you think that reality would be the same as a science fiction movie? That’s even more stupid.

Good.

That vastly decreases my odds of poking the wrong thing.

The Apes touched the monolith and when man touched it there was a loud buzzing noise. I wonder if the people in Utah heard that noise?
