James Leavelle was the first person to interrogate Lee Harvey Oswald after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He described what happened leading up to after Oswald was killed by Jack Ruby while speaking at the 19th annual American Veterans Center Veterans Conference & Honors and National Youth Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.

Some tidbits I had not heard. Those who had not seen the interview may find it interesting.
Thanks for posting, I’ll check it out.

He said Ruby got in because there was a short break in security lasting seconds. But Jack Ruby is seen on film hanging around the cops attending press meets before on at least one occasion.
Ruby was well known by the DPD
“Ruby was well known by the DPD”

Yup. It would be hard to believe that Leavelle didn’t know who he was. A vice squad detective named Combest yelled ‘Jack, you son of a b-tch’.
I don’t find his remark to Oswald about being “as good a shot as you are” the least bit funny. Considering the circumstances and what a LOUSY, INCOMPETENT job the DPD did of guarding a man who the entire country was furious at, if I were him I’d keep my mouth shut on the subject.
yeah— well known to all the dallas dicks whoot inruy’s stripjoints for free and also got free tosses wid da goils.\\\naked city and all that.
James Leavelle died just last year, at the age of 99.
I remember vividly watching that live on tv.
Even as a 13 y/o kid, I knew it a BIG deal.
As an aside, Hulu has an 8-episode mini series "11.22.63" It involves a HS teacher who goes back to 1961 and lives to eventually attempt to stop Oswald. Certainly an interesting concept and an entertaining series.
I watched it too.
I wonder how many of us saw that sight.
I wonder too, do they believe as I do that Ruby silenced Oswald from speaking out about what he knew
It was originally a novel by Stephen King. I’m NOT a fan of his but did like this one. The ending is a bit anti-climactic however.
In-a-godda-da-Oswald
I hope Trump releases all the JFK files .
That’s what everyone thought back then.
One more recent theory, has at least some interesting features that cleans up some of that event imponderables. The story goes, that the advance team of Secret Service spent the night prior in Dallas at JR’s club drinking into the wee hours of the morn. Hung over, a then brand-new fielded weapon - the Colt AR-15, is handed off to a relatively inexperienced agent.
Oswald fires a couple few rounds, and at least one misses. But not all of them. The agent carrying the AR-15 attempts to stand up in the trailing car from the Kennedy motorcade with the weapon just as they speed up - and he fires off a round inadvertently. Guess where the round goes?
I remember reading Comgressman Yarborough (D) Texas stating that he smelled gunpowder very strongly all the way to Parkland hospital, something that would never happen from the shots Oswald fired from the 6th floor of the TSB building.
If true, it also explains a lot of the ensuing coverup, and the “theft” of the president’s body, and lots of other jiggery-pokery with the autopsy. And Mr. Ruby might have been just the guy to get rid of Oswald. If there had been a trial, what was Oswald going to say? “Somebody else was shooting at him too”. And he would have been correct
That’ll never do.
