Oh no, what should I do with my comic reading time... Oh wait, I haven’t read comics since 1976...

I had a German teacher in high school who credited Comic Books with helping her learn our language. Original comic art was also an inspiration to many.

There’s still a lot of $$ for Time-Warner to earn via movies.
Unlike Marvel and Sony, Warner Communications never had respect for the source material, and resisted recruiting comic book writers and editors into the movie side of things. Superman is about as straightforward a superhero to present on the big screen as there is, and after numerous tries Warner NEVER got it right.
The original Superman movie employed Mario Puzo as a screenwriter, who clearly did not respect the genre and would not accept it on its own terms. He also violated the wise DC canon that if a Superhero (or anybody) goes into the past (frequent story line), he cannot change what happened. Once the past is fungible the "comic book reality" has no boundaries, there are no permanent penalties for wrong choices and it becomes impossible to create a meaningful story.

I’m a DC Silver Age kid, all grown up — but with a stack of Superman and family comics from the early 1960’s that I still love.

I don’t know about this one. Comics, even modest comics make revenue and drive a lot of secondary revenues... I don’t know what goes on at thr corporate HQ, but I find this report questionable.
Guess We’ll see...
As a reader of DC for about 30 years I can say they have politicized their storylines way too much... DC focused insanely on “inclusion” and Marvel all about SJW tropes.. but as a whole I’m dubious they are shutting DC down.

This. the first Superman film is a decent film up through introduction as Superman and then goes downhill.
I like Gene Hackman, but his skill as an actor can’t save him from the ridiculous version of Lex Luthor he is given to portray.

Never understood the mass fascination American adults have with comics heroes. I think i got over Batman when when i was like eight.I never had an interest in comics, I guess I'm odd.

Another factor and large problem is that the industry no longer produces inexpensive comics for little kids. Comics all look like graphic novels now, with 4/C art, selling for $2.50 an issue, or more. Add to that the mix of adult and SJW content. It’s not a winning mix.
It’s an absurd tragedy what’s happened to a once fine and friendly art form.

That movie was also the first attempt (later completed) to move him away from being a classic bald mad scientist (in the mode of yours truly, who predates Lex Luthor) into a common thug/crooked businessman.
I am sorry about what DC did to poor Alan Scott, by the way.

1. Don’t get me started.
2. Nothing after Crisis on Infinite Earths is canon.
3. One More Day isn’t canon either...

I was unfamiliar with the life of Mart Nodell. Thank you for giving me an excuse to look him up. The comics industry, like the record industry, has always been unkind to the creative/performing side of the operation.

I do. At the time I thought they looked boring. Now I wish I could get some for my children who don't take to proper reading as much as I'd like.
