COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A suspect accused of opening fire on a deputys car in south Columbia was shot by that deputy, officials said.
It happened around 1:40 p.m. Monday on Marathon Drive. Thats off Bluff Road, just south of Interstate 77.
Sheriff Leon Lott said deputies were called to the address because of a domestic dispute.
When one deputy got to the scene, a man fired an assault rifle at the deputys car, hitting it at least three times, Lott said. Thankfully, the deputy was not shot.
The sheriff said his deputy returned fire from inside the car, shooting the suspect in the arm.
After the deputy started shooting, the suspect ran to a nearby house and grabbed a woman who lives there around the neck, Lott said.
Deputies, along with the womans husband, wrestled the gun away from the suspect.
Michael Dennis, 23, was arrested. He already faced numerous charges in other cases, Lott said.
Dennis is in the hospital recovering from being shot in the arm, but will face additional charges once hes released.
The RCSD Officer-Involved Shooting Team will investigate the scene of the shooting, Lott said.
Yes, but think this through . . . over time we will be down a good number of social workers, and getting shot or stabbed to death has a pleasant chilling effect on aspiring would-be future social workers.
I think the police are supposed to accept a few casualties before they are allowed to defend themselves.
Sleepy said to shoot them in the LEG!! Can’t cops do anything right?
If I had been the woman’s husband the police might not be able to pull me off of him.
Yeah, but they make big bucks, so there will be a plentiful resupply. /sarc
“Well, don’t shoot me NOW, Mal!”
This guy will be released and kill again. Book it.
I did a google image search for a Michael Dennis in Columbia, SC. You can check that out for yourself.
Here is a link to a story about a Michael Dennis that should be about the same age.

Appears he committed armed robbery in 2014.
I don’t envy the RCSD cops.
They do a lot and I think pretty well.
I agree.
I pass the Bluff road exits back and forth enough.
Shop Road I am more likely to be on since the powder coat gang has their shop.
All that matters are the races of the cop and that of perp...I mean, victim of police brutality and systemic racism.
send in the reavers.
“...send in the reavers.”
Good thing he didn’t have a shoulder brace (the going up thingy) or he’d be in real trouble.
