A public safety alert has been issued for San Benancio/Corral de Tierra area, in Monterey County, for three wolf-hybrid dogs.

According to the Monterey County Health Department, the three dogs are not contained in the area and could pose a threat to the community.

Animal Services is asking the public to not approach or try to catch these animals. Small animals, birds and livestock should be safely confined until these animals can be contained.

"If you see these animals during business hours, please call Animal Control at 831-769-8856. Animal Control is monitoring this line frequently. If you see these animals after hours, please call 911," said Public Information Officer Karen Smith.

The only way to catch them is to use old hippies as bait.

You gotta hamstring the hippies to be sure, though...

Even if coyotes can't carry illegals across the border, I bet these are big enough to.

Better to stake them down by one leg. They don’t run much anyway. The older the hippy the better. After years of recreational drug use they are a natural sedative after being eaten. Like Turkey on Thanksgiving.

I’ve seen wolf hybrids here in Alaska, when given T-bone steak bones, to chew them up as if they were peanut brittle. Wolves, and even hybrid wolves, are NOT dogs.

Thanks for the ping. We hiked at "Corral de Tierra" near HMB. The other one where Steinbeck grew up is in Monterey County.

Corral de Tierra, the "Fence of the Earth". A young John Steinbeck and his sister Mary would play at the base of the jarring sandstone cliffs. Steinbeck's short story cycle The Pastures of Heaven explores the area, its history, and the lives of its inhabitants. (NOTE: the accompanying map on this site shows the HMB Corral de Tierra. You'd think that SJSU could do better than that!)

“In the late afternoon of the second day a small deer started up before the troop and popped out of sight over a ridge. The corporal disengaged himself from his column and rode in pursuit. His heavy horse scrambled and floundered up the steep slope; the manzanita reached sharp claws for the corporal’s face, but he plunged on after his dinner. In a few minutes he arrived at the top of the ridge, and there he stopped, stricken with wonder at what he saw--a long valley floored with green pasturage on which a herd of deer browsed. Perfect live oaks grew in the meadow of the lovely place, and the hills hugged it jealousy against the fog and the wind…”Holy mother!” he whispered. “Here are the green pastures of Heaven to which our Lord leadeth us.” (POH 2)

“After the bare requisites to living and reproducing, man wants most to leave some record of himself, a proof, perhaps, that he has really existed. He leaves his proof on wood, on stone or on the lives of other people. This deep desire exists in everyone, from the boy who writes dirty words in a public toilet to the Buddha who etches his image in the race mind. Life is so unreal. I think that we seriously doubt that we exist and go about trying to prove that we do.” (POH 56-57)
