This reminds me of a Star Trek Next Generation episode called The Pegasus. In this episode the Federation was messing around with a cloaking device that allowed a ship to move through matter all while invisible. It did not end well for the ship and crew.

Right. I’d imagine any true tech of that sort would be extremely complicated with lots to possibly go wrong.
