Thanks!

It’s not easy being Green, says Kermit. There are days when it fits.

Things are okay here. Cats will get sunshine, and it might even get warm.

I’m back from Walmart and now an entirely new set of challenges awaits me than what I had originally scheduled. Is twoday really Twosday, or is it really Moneday in disguise?

I’m thinking Twosday is a two-for-one deal.

I’m not sure whether it’s a bargain or not.

I heard an interesting talk yesterday about a man from east Africa who became a refugee in the U.S. At some point during his life here he found out hotels throw out 800,000,000 bars of soap each year. Considering how desperately soap is needed in much of the world to fight disease he was inspired. He figured out how to recycle soap (you can’t exactly wash it clean) and started a global non-profit to recycle soap. He’s done a lot to reduce disease around the world.

Sort of makes me wonder if anything useful could be made with coffee grounds after you’ve brewed the coffee.

You can use coffee grounds as fertilizer.

I had wondered if it could be composted. One of my thoughts was that the office buildings in New York must throw out several tons every day.

It can help to loosen and aerate soil and is also a deterrent to digging animals such as cats.

I do know that coffee grounds have been used with great success in the compost heap and I’m sure if they were of a fine-enough grind they could be used much like pumice in soaps.

But then, I found this:

There may even be chemistry to the grounds. I think coffee is slightly acidic. Might the grounds be useful in a cleanser?

I had the similar thought to use them as an abrasive component like pumice.

I wonder if they can be pressed together to make bricks?

There has to be something somewhere.

I agree completely! There should be something they can be used for on a daily basis.

Survived Walmart again. Then we delivered a long-delayed Christmas present to one of my choir ladies. She was stuck in the Dominican Republic at Christmas: went to visit family and couldn’t get back because of Covid.

My older brudder made an attempt at an engineering company for a few years. It didn’t last, but one thing he built was a device that would press tree stumps through a grid that would squeeze all the sap/syrup out of them and leave a really light fluffy wood that his client could sell. Thus, a major landfill headache in the northeast was resolved. He said to me, “All we have to do is find a chemical engineer to do something with that sap/syrup and we won’t have to put anything into the ground.

I’m all for stuff like that, as long as the government isn’t choosing the winners.

Walmart was a little beyond me this morning, so needless to say, I was glad to get back. I still need to bring the water in but that can wait until tomorrow. My Tired is catching up with me again.

I saw an acquaintance I hadn’t seen for several months, and she told me she and her husband had had the flu shot with surprisingly few side-effects. I think she said they got the Pfizer version. It was good to know, I think. Anyway, there were more people than I expected in the place this morning.

Ya got the ‘daft’ part right, fer sure.

Failing, today, to get my butt to work in the face of tech and small child issues at home pertaining to Chromebooks, remote school, Samba clients, network authentication and Windows operating systems.

I have items pending to other parties, and have not logged in yet.

This keeping the schools closed garbage is dang near gonna cost me my job if it keeps up. God bless my employer for all their flexibility thus far, but this is really getting to taxing the limits of their good graces.

Hope you’re faring better.

Oh, wow, that sort of pressure is tail-spin material! For a minute, thought, “Gee, who knew he gave Samba lessons?” but then rethought it and decided to look it up later. Anyway, prayers up for the health and safety of you and yours, and that the entropy remains manageable.

Hiya!

I haven’t seen you on here since around the time your wife was down. I never did learn if she and her hunting party were able to get anything. It wasn’t an ideal time for hunting, for sure, all cold, wet and ugly for the most part.

I never enjoyed hunting in weather like that, but I knew people who did it out of necessity.
