In an amazing twist of fate, General Motors' gas-guzzling middle-finger-flying Hummer brand, discontinued in 2010, is poised to make a comeback for 2022 as an all-electric sub-brand of GMC. We know very little about the GMC Hummer EV SUT pickup truck so far. But we do know that it will offer 1000 horsepower and GMC claims it's capable of blasting from zero to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds. Pickup trucks are clearly the next frontier for electric vehicles, as potential rivals from upstarts such as Rivian, Bollinger, and Teslaas well as entrenched truckmakers such as Fordare preparing their own entries in this emerging segment. We'll know more soon, as GMC plans to unveil the Hummer EV SUT and it's novel "crab mode" on October 20th.
We aren't even sure yet what kind of standard or optional features will be available or what price the Hummer EV SUT will command. We'll find out much more about the new pickup truck as it inches closer to production.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance We've heard that the Hummer EV SUT will be available with one, two, or three electric motors. The single unit suggests a rear-drive model while the two- and three-motor setups indicate two different all-wheel-drive potenciesand punchy acceleration. So punchy, in fact, that GMC is claiming a 3.0-second zero-to-60-mph time for the truck. Every additional electric motor should provide increasing payload or towing capacities. GMC claims that the Hummer EV SUT will make 1000 horsepower and a whopping 11,500 lb-ft of torque. While we take issue with how that misleading torque number is calculated, it should have massive pulling power regardless.

The under-discussed bonus: every morning it’s topped off (charge overnight at home). Almost never have to deliberately charge during the day; long trips would be only exception for most people, and after 3-400 miles you’ll probably want a break anyway.
I don’t care what it runs on, I’m not in the market for a $70,000 new car
You bet...Some of the new cars and E cars are so freaking over-engineered with electronic sensors and garbage it’s flat out ridicules.
Yeah, let me know when Mr. Fusion is available, until then I don’t trust the too few charging stations and the too inadequate power grids and power generation for all these EV’s they are trying to ram down our throats.
Does it come with a Ma Duece standard?
Depends on the road trip. With multiple drivers, in a comfy sedan, we wouldn’t mind a 5-min - 20-min break.
But, if we run out of gas on the road, we always have an empty can in the trunk, can walk for fuel.
If we run out of charge... we don’t have any extension cords that long.
When it can tow my 15000 lb fifth wheel 400+ miles with 30 minute recharge I might take a look.
I am all for electric cars when they have the range and performance of conventional cars at all ambient temperatures. Until then, I am not interested except in very specific uses.
But I would like to see a production Hummer go 0-60 in three seconds! That is a LOT of torque!
I went trail riding with a guy in a Hummer about 12 years ago. As I followed him in my Jeep on a dirt road, before we hit the actual trail, he put it in four wheel drive. My wife's Toyota Corolla could have easily been driven on that road.
If its that big, bring a portable generator. And lots of gas.
“But we do know that it will offer 1000 horsepower and GMC claims it’s capable of blasting from zero to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds.”
yeah, but can it go for more than 50 miles without recharging the batteries?
Brilliant!
Not every vehicle is for everyone.
Though when you consider total cost of ownership, EVs come out cheaper than equivalents. Gas cars may have a lower starting price, but between lower “fuel” cost and fewer repairs and longer lifespan, EVs front-load an ultimately lower end cost.
Well, I saw the HUMMERev ad.
The big reveal was, in fact, a couple-minute ad.
OK, features include:
- 4-wheel “crabwalk” _steering_
- available fall 2021
- under-body cameras
- 250-350 mile range
- 100 mile charge in 10 minutes
- 625-1000 horsepower
- 0-60 in 3 seconds
- removable (mostly) roof
- autopilot cruise with lane change
- +6”/-2” adjustable clearance
- $80-113,000
Big emphasis on off-road ability.
Nothing sez “I have more money than sense” like a Hummer.. d;^)
Thanks RomanSoldier19. Jason's isn't the only other vid, but I like his channel a ton.

Gonna be a hard sell vs Tesla. Bottom-end HummerEV costs more than a loaded Cybertruck (which has 500 mile battery, <3s 0-60, larger bed, “bulletproof”*, self-driving; lacks only removable roof, 4wheel steering, and undercarriage cameras).
(* - yes it’s not full-blown bulletproof. Does stop light 9mm. Which would you rather drive thru an Antifa riot?)
Dislike spec sheets that list components by proprietary names as though they mean something special. “UltraVision”, “Ultium”, “MultiPro”, etc mean nothing - precisely when an objective technical description is desired.
