200 days of 15 days to flatten the curve. Idiots all over the world, including the USA, were quick to throw their liberty and freedom away because of the Coronavirus. I just don’t think that people value freedom and liberty over the need to feel like they are helping others. I am Catholic and many here are either Catholic or Protestant. But many who want to throw their freedom away are also Christian. Theologically, is it that many people feel that freedom and liberty are not things to be valued by Christianity? I know a great deal of Christian apologetics but the Christian defense of liberty doesn’t roll off of my tongue like other Christian teachings. Anyone care to give a Christian defense of liberty here? And does anyone know how we can convince Christians that liberty is actually a good thing, as opposed to a neutral thing?

Interestingly the median mortality age for all causes in the US in 2018 was around 78 years old. The median mortality age from covid complications can be argued to be right at that same level.
I’m not sure if this is specific to this topic, but it may be tangential. One of the basic tenets of Baptists is “Individual Soul Liberty” (Personal Soul Liberty). In regard to our faith, we love liberty, which is from God, in general. That embrace of liberty in any form carries over to every part of life — including politics.

I think it is largely taken for granted but freedom and liberty had to be our first gift from God after giving us life. How much value could any future decision have if we weren’t first free to make that choice?

Many, if not most churches in America have been infected with SJW, “environmental justice” and PC themes.
Only 1/2 of the gospel is preached, God loves you. Not many calls for repentance are heard. Freedom in Christ isn’t heard often enough.
If people could see they don’t have to be slaves to political correctness and social media lies, it would do wonders.
The death statistics are skewed and you know it. At end first pass of a novel infection through a naive population is always the worst then it settles down to an endemic rate. BTW, our two best pastors — in California, no less — were strong on preaching liberty. And they had no problem “getting political” in the pulpit, and one even handed out yard signs. They were fully prepared to be arrested, and had succession plans in place if that ever happened. They ignored 501c3 crap, preferring to follow God.
On our way to church here in TN, we drive past other churches, some of which are Baptist, and they are closed. Shameful. These are the pastors who will be “standing right there alongside them”. It could be they’re afraid of the gubmint, or they’re just lazy — or both.
Even though I consider myself to be Baptist, if a non-Baptist local church sticks more to the Scriptures, we’ll go to that one. We’ve done it before.

Deaths are up this year because people who are suffering from the real killers, heart disease, cancer, and stroke haven't been able to or have been afraid to get treatment in a timely manner.
My wife's older brother died from an inoperable cancerous brain tumor earlier this year. At that time tests were not available for people who were not politicians, celebrities, or health care workers... so he was counted as a “Presumptive coronavirus death”. The numbers you are citing have been manipulated to politically weaponize coronavirus.
In our state every test that comes back positive is counted as a "new case" whether it is the first time someone has tested positive or the 10th. Anyone who dies who had a positive result, even if it had to be oversampled 40 times to find a trace of the virus's DNA, and they had no symptoms, and the actual cause of death was a bullet in their brain... is still counted as a coronavirus death. And that is no exaggeration, there are examples of this all across the country...
