Will Hollywood still make and release motion pictures? I believe so. Will they "gross" as much as they used to? Not so much. So the big issue isn't that movies won't be made, but the business model will need to change.
And that means owners of "picture palaces" will need to adapt to the new reality.
I don’t go to the movies often, but I do like going out as opposed to watching on TV. It’s expensive, but I won’t go broke doing it. I feel sorry for the guy in my town who runs one of the last 1920s movie palaces. He gets new movies a little later than the big operations, but going there is a lot expensive, and he’ll play Christmas classics, and a couple of times a year he features silent movies with organ accompaniment. That place has been closed since March.
Losing movie theaters forever?
So I cant see an overpriced movie with rude strangers in a filthy seat with overpriced snacks while getting a politically correct lecture?
Oh no....
I heard the theaters were open again, but there aren’t any good movies being released. Probably because nobody is going. Because there aren’t any good movies...
Kind of a chicken before the egg kind of thing.
As an independent filmmaker, I am not sorry. Giant studios blackmailed theaters to make sure no independent film could compete with big studio releases for prime nights and times. The theater time slots were all committed to Hollywood giants. Independents needed not apply.
I hope the entire scam is completely destroyed.
Thats OK Hollywood, move your business to China, they love you over there.
In the meantime there are enterprising Americans who will fill any hole within minutes after you leave. Oh, and a lot of behind the scenes people who actually make the magic happen are real Americans and will form the foundation of the new film industry in the US.
Fine with me. I hope all those seditious jackazzes go broke.
Wanna fix this?
Let theaters keep more of the revenue from new movies. The studios can take the hit.
As it stands, theaters make almost NO revenue from a first run movie in the first couple of weeks after its release. The get about 5% of the box office. The theaters have to make their money on concessions (which why they cost so much...).
So, if the studios want the theaters to survive, maybe they need to increase that to say, 50%?
Instead, the studios want tax payers to take the hit. The studios should take the hit for the theaters.
This was our last movie in a theatre:
The Imitation Game (2014) - IMDbwww.imdb.com title
... tries to crack the German Enigma code with help from fellow mathematicians. ... Based on the real life story of legendary cryptanalyst Alan Turing
May Follywood suffer the same fate as the NFL, NBA and MLB and other hate America thugs are suffering.
Considering the pandering remakes of films and on and on and on sequels it’s no wonder; plus those Trump hating awards ceremonies - good.
Won’t bother me. Independence Day was the last movie I saw in a theater, and I don’t remember the one before that.
I used to be a big cinema buff..... I started losing interest in the late 90’s when contemporary movies started becoming more and more overtly decadent and juvenile, along with the fact that a lot of directors that were being hailed as geniuses, like Ron Howard and Rob Reiner, were making movies that struck me as being big budget versions of “made for TV movies”..... Where all the emphasis was on advancing the plot and the characters were totally one dimensional..... After Hollywood started making all these anti-military movies following 9/11 I totally walked away....there’s no young Billy Wilder’s or Blake Edward’s or Hitchcock....it’s all crap....Tarantino and Sofia Coppola are exceptions.....let Hollywood die
I wouldnt notice if they closed permanently.
How can we live without seeing trash on a 40-foot screen in Sensurround, while being tormented by uncouth vermin in the seats behind us? At a cost of 20 bucks a ticket. And another 10 bucks for a tub of styrofoam popcorn and a Coke that’s mostly ice?
Shut down Hollywood and it’s DNC propaganda machine permanently. Do it. It’s been utterly worthless for several decades. The last movie I saw in the theater was Dances With Wolves.
Television is trash too.
Were all in this together! Maybe actors can learn to code?
Last movie I saw in a theater was Call of the Wild...only because I was having some car work done and had to kill a couple of hours. It was the least offensive offering at the multiplex.
If a theater closes and there was nobody there to hear it...
Does the phrase, “Tough $h:+” sound familiar?
