Blue States Secede? Make My Day
American Thinker ^ | 2 Oct, 2020 | John Kudla

Posted on 10/02/2020 4:29:59 AM PDT by MtnClimber

It was a bit of a surprise to read tweets from Lanny Davis, the famous attorney and associate of Bill and Hillary Clinton, detailing the possible secession of the blue states from the rest of the country. You can read portions of the sequence of tweets here or here.

This may be Lanny's way of venting Democrat frustration. Despite every dirty trick the left has employed, Trump is still president and may continue to be through 2024. Okay, if you red-state rubes will not kneel before us, we will pick up our socialist toys and create a country of our own!

To be clear, this is not a threat of civil war. It is more like a family law attorney telling the unappreciated wife what she can expect out of the divorce. For example, Davis claims that the new country will get the following states:

Hawaii, Oregon, California, New Mexico, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and all the Northeast ... including Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and Washington D.C.

He then claims that his new country will also get the following:

We get the vast majority of the major shipping ports ... Costco, Starbucks, and Boeing ... stem cell research and the best beaches ... the Statue of Liberty ... Intel, Apple, and Microsoft...85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs ... 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal ... Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

As long as they only take “blue” counties.

The liberal cancer needs to be walled off so it cannot infect anywhere else. No way can the rats be allowed out of the craphole that the blue states would create and fester.

Sorry but the way it works entire states either vote to secede or not.

A secession movement in those states would probably end the same way Quebec's secession movement died out in the 1990s.

Canada faced a serious day of reckoning when a secession referendum in Quebec in the early 1990s was only defeated by a narrow margin.

The issue disappeared entirely once it became apparent that residents in much of the province -- including huge swaths of the resource-rich regions of northern Quebec -- made it clear that they would secede from Quebec and remain part of Canada in the event Quebec ever seceded. That was the end of the secessionist movement -- especially since nearly every aboriginal tribe with vast land claims across much of the country had no interest in that silly secession talk.

You'd see the same thing in this country, too. If these states tried to secede from the U.S., they'd end up as a disconnected bunch of city-states trying to function as a nation -- with huge stretches of America in between them.

You're an incoherent retardate, dude.

You're posting responses to things that have nothing to do with what I've posted here.

Go away.

The last time a bunch of Democrat controlled states seceded it did not go so well for them.

Entire states seceding? Why not throw the cancerous Democrat cities out and keep the productive parts of the state as part of the United States?

New York in particular is a very conservative state outside of the Communist enclave of New York City. Citizens in such states are taxed without representation since the same people who are "supposed to" represent them are the ones taxing them.

No, the celebutards just threatened to leave the country if 45 won.

I’m still waiting...

This has been the stated goal of Russia for the last 20 years, and the Democrats were accomplices from the beginning. From November 2008:

US will collapse and break up, Russian analyst predicts

And here they were focusing on Donald J. Trump. Hmmmmm.

When was the last time a Republican nominee got a single Electoral Vote from Maryland?

moovova: "SC would hold firm.
This time it would be a lot of Yankee states seceding.
Can’t wait for the anti-Lost Causers to show up and explain how that works.
Be prepared for hate and disdain to fill the air."

You got it all wrong!
In any mutually agreed to secession, we get all the red counties, they get the blue ones:

At any rate, Western Maryland would like to claim independence from the rest of the forsaken state.

“Western Maryland: Almost West Virginia”

I went to college at Frostburg back in the 1970s. I recall then that people in western Maryland felt very disconnected from the rest of the state. I had heard in recent years someone trying to get a movement started, to split off western Maryland into a new state.

Just about every state has different regions like this, where people feel they are separate from other regions of the state.

central_va: "I am glad the idea of state(s) secession is going mainstream. It's about time it did."

Nonsense -- the only way this works by mutual consent is: we get all the red counties, they get all the blue.

See my post #74 above.

FiddlePig: "If “Blue” states secede... look then for their “Red” areas to then secede from them.
Most of the land area if you look at most “Blue” states are “Red”.”"

Right, we grant mutual consent if and only if we get all the red counties, they get only the blue counties.

See map in post #74 above.

Exactly right!
We get all the red counties, they get only the blue counties.

Sounds good to me. Except it really should be split down the middle, for contiguous territory. So choose your side.

I choose the east side, with all the naturally self-sustaining geography and weather.

Secession is truly the only good way to resolve this. Some of us will have to move.

central_va: "Let me educate you ( if that is possible ). Secession DOES NOT MEAN WAR."

It does if the new country provokes, starts, declares and wages war against the United States.

But don't expect that because they only get the blue counties, NONE OF THE RED COUNTIES!
