The debate? Trump was great, Chris Wallace was a dreadful disgrace
American Thinker ^ | 30 Sep, 2020 | Patricia McCarthy

Chris Wallace’s overt defense of Joe Biden throughout the debate on Tuesday night was so obvious, so blatant, he should be proscribed from ever “moderating” a debate again.

Wallace’s performance was as Biden’s protector, his advocate, and that is undeniable. He stepped in at every moment Biden seemed lost: court-packing, lack of support of law enforcement, and Hunter’s criminality.

The debate was so poorly managed. The questions were designed to aid Biden, to coddle him. No wonder Trump felt duty-bound to interrupt. Trump was debating both Wallace and Biden and only one of them is sentient.

Wallace’s intent was clear – sabotage Trump. Wallace succeeded only in looking like the stooge he is.

Why a two-minute rule? That hardly gives either man time to rebut what was just said about him. Wallace even brought up the Charlottesville charge but did not admit it was a manufactured lie without giving Trump the time to deny the lie.

How many races have you won? Trump needs to be Trump and continue to destroy Biden while exposing his corruption.

Biden was never going to drive off the cliff on his own. Wallace was making sure to keep him on the road as handlers on the ear piece fed Joe talking points. You think Biden’s performance was bad remove the ear piece and see how much worse he is even with Wallace helping. The dementia has him in its clutches and Trump knew Biden would have feed in his ear and the aid of Wallace.

The apple didn’t fall far from the tree, at least no in Chris’ case. He’s a liberal asshole just like his old man.

Wallace should have shut up and let Trump talk - he made the debate unbearable.

He could have then granted equal time to Biden to respond... but the constant bickering and debate FROM WALLACE was terrible.

He was nearly as bad as Candy Crowley in the Romney-Obama debates.

The easiest job in football is armchair QB. Sounds like most people here would have preferred Romney or Jeb was up there taking it like a good Repub rather than fighting back.

As a Repub you have two choices, win ugly or lose graciously. Sounds like most here would prefer to be gracious.

Yes Chris Wallace had to go to the 17th(Fort Worth) and 47th(Tulsa) largest cities in America to find his examples of Republican lead cities with an uptick in crime.

Why would he have researched such an obscure fact? The reason, he PLANNED on rebutting Trump when he brought up the surging violence in all the Democrat lead cities.

“Trump needs to tighten up in the next debate.”

Yes. Take on his controlled but nonchalant rally persona.

And whose fault is that? Wallace is a registered Democrat. That’s common knowledge (you can look it up). So I give a fair amount of the blame to the GOP (and yes, to Trump too).

This happens every four years. The Commission on Presidential Debates sets up the debates. They always pick leftist moderators. And the GOP always follows right along, just like a little puppy dog.

Instead, why not have each candidate pick two panelists? And have them agree on a neutral moderator, whose only job is to keep time. Nothing could be fairer.

But no one on the GOP side - including Trump - has demanded any such thing. So we get played, time and time again.

The President lost this battle but in service of winning the larger war. His pugilistic personae is off-putting, perhaps outright rude. He should have had modestly more restraint.

But Biden made critical mistakes, borderline fatal. And because the Dems are always intent on losing to President Trump, they will follow up with more mistakes. One of those mistakes may be to infer that they have a larger lead than they actually have. If so, count on them to cancel the debate rematch and keep Biden in the basement through election day as a relentless President Trump continues to hammer him on dozens of issues at rally after rally. Rather than apologize for his debate performance, count on President Trump to keep referring back to it. ‘Antifa is just an idea? Really, Joe? Hey Joe, do you still have zero endorsements from law enforcement organizations? Joe, take a look please at the unemployment rates in open red states versus closed blue states. ...’

"I think knowing he was outnumbered going in was disconcerting to the President. He could handle Biden. How did he know what Wallass was going to do?"

That is the rub, the President should have assumed it was going to be two against one and prepared accordingly. Trump's strength is arrogance. Supreme belief in himself and his abilities to command any situation. That character trait is also his Achilles Heel. Trump was just being Trump.

Wallace indicated that white supremacists stirred up trouble in Kenosha. Did I miss that? Sure, unhinged leftist claimed Rittenhouse and those with him were white supremacists but based on what?

From the article.... “Wallace even brought up the Charlottesville charge but did not admit it was a manufactured lie without giving Trump the time to deny the lie.”

Why should a manufactured lie be brought up so that Trump has to spend his time denying or refuting a lie? If a manufactured lie is to be brought up in this circumstance, then it should have been posed only to Biden ... after all he claims he decided to run for POTUS b/c of Charlottesville,... and make him square his decision to run (which Trump said that was was not true) with a manufactured lie.

I understand what Trump was trying to do — and he was debating two people

You forget the team at the other end of Biden's wire.

I watched and it seemed to me that that is exactly what happened.

Were I Trump, I would refuse to debate unless it was OAN or other right-leaning news outlet - at least it wouldn't be two libs on One American.
