GA does not allow people to change their home address

We moved to GA a month ago. We are still unable to get GA retailers to accept our new address. Every GA retailer still claims we are at our old MA address and denies us our new address. This is driving us bat$hit. We have changed our Address with our credit card but no deal.

I think I see why you’re having a problem. You might try New York or California, I’m pretty sure your credit is good there <;-)

Are you being tripped up on the question about General Sherman? That usually gets you tagged as a non-Georgian if you answer it wrong.

Is that for real?

Open a bank account and transfer your money from your current state to Georgia.

Ridiculous.

Why?

transfer your car insurance to the State of Georgia.

Why?

We’ve had too many refugees from failed states move here; we’re full.

Maybe you are supposed to go back to MA and do it all over again?

Did you turn in a change of address to the USPS before you left?

Because the law in most states says that if people do not do those things, they are residents of the state in which they do their banking, where they are registered to vote, where you car is registered.

This moron who wants to become a resident of Georgia without doing those things is just a visitor until he/she/they do so.

Learn to pronounce your Rs

Car, not ka

I grew up in Mass. and learned how to say car.

Seriously though, retailers? First step is to tell USPS to forward all mail to your GA address because you moved. Second step is driver’s license for which you’ll have to show proof of residency. Varies by State but a lease or mortgage plus utility bill should do it. If you show GA retailers your GA driver’s license with GA address, how can they deny that???

Nor sure how some people make it through life

Do you know the difference between a Yankee and a damn Yankee?

Is every adult in Georgia registered to vote?

I don’t believe it.

Nobody in Georgia has investments out of state?

I don’t believe that either.

Nobody in Georgia does business with auto insurance companies located in other states?

Also find that unbelievable.

Or asking where the William T Sherman liberation memorials are.

We looked at moving to Alpharetta, GA in 1998. I had a job offer from Nortel Networks and they paid for the whole family to come out.

The realtor was showing us houses and I asked were the downtown area of Alpharetta was (I was looking for a quaint little country village). She replied “It was burned in the war.”

“The war.” I’ve only heard WW II called that and her remark really took me aback.

We didn’t move there.

Alpharetta didn’t have a downtown then.

It sorta does now. A reasonably cool area around the new courthouse with a small pile of decent restaurants and such. You could have done a lot worse.

Have you applied for a new driver’s license?

Changed your voter registration to new location?

Do you have your vehicle insurance changed?

Any or all of that should be sufficient.

The traffic on GA-400 was horrendous. The congestion, growth and traffic turned us off.

Never heard of this issue after living in GA 30 years. Of course if you’re a Yankee and your last name is Sherman you might have a problem.

Fair enough.

Covid has done a lot for that, but it’s building back.

Yankees aren’t a protected class in Georgia. At least you didn’t try Mississippi. The 4th of July wasn’t a holiday in Vicksburg until the 1970s (although the liberals started trying to stir things up in the 50s).

You might try going out to Stone Mountain to make an apology to the leaders honored there.

What are some examples of the types of retailers in GA that won’t update your address?

If it is for catalogs or advertising materials, it might just take longer than a month to be processed in their systems.

Are they telling you that they refuse to change it? Or just that it is not happening quickly?
