The problem is the “announced themselves.” They need to actually communicate that to the people inside. No way the boy friend knew that was police when he started shooting.

I think they may have had a warrant for his arrest, not just a search. But whatever, they announced their presence and didn’t just charge through the door.
The boyfriend shot first, and only one of the officers (the one charged) shot back. He’s being charged with endangerment because the shots could have hit someone in another apartment.
I thought it was a pretty reasonable solution, and hopefully a jury will let the cop off because he was not the first to fire.
I’m not pro-fire at random, and I think cops do need to restrain themselves if possible. But as one said to me, in certain situations you know that only one person is going home...and you want it to be you.

Even if they do announce themselves it does not matter since home invaders can yell “police” to gain an advantage.
Imagine armed men break down your door in the dark and you know police have no reason to be there.
Would you put your gun down just because they say they are police?
I think they generally prefer to search when the person is there. In any case, it wasn’t a “no-knock,” and all the guy had to do was open the door, not shoot at them.

Clearly the boyfriend heard it was the police and acknowledged he heard them and opened fire when they came in. Sure that’s why they dropped the charges!
Or just maybe it was even clear to the police and the DA this guy had no idea who was breaking in and was just defending himself and his girlfriend.
Perhaps the police should have sent them an invitation or requested a time to meet late at night is when the dealing goes on duh
There is NO defending this crap. Her ex boyfriend had a package sent to her address. The police and the DA have admitted the occupants did not know the police were breaking in when they dropped the charges against the boyfriend who shot them when they broke in. There were no drugs found at the scene yet somehow you see nothing wrong here and are still accusing the occupants of being drug dealers. Pathetic.
This could literally happen to anyone on this thread. A friend or relative has a package sent to your address, the police “suspect” it was drugs. They get a warrant and come to your house at 2am. You are dead asleep when they announce and seconds later they bust in the door and shoot your wife five times and kill her. This is esentially what happened and people here are defending this action.
Facts don’t matter in this Marxist age of postmodernism. If they don’t believe in law and order, how would we expect a civil discourse based on facts?
As an additional annoyance in this case is the sketchy details know about the case. The full story needs to be kept secret because of the court case. Because of this needed process to protect the case, that gives an opening for the revolutionaries to make up everything to fabricate their case. Once they set the narrative, they can whip up the destruction. Violence will be met with violence. I am wondering when someone will pull a Stephen Paddock style Los Vegas mass shooting?
