They worry about this, but don’t give a crap that if the left takes over we lose our republic.

While it’s been several years since I’ve been to Mt. Wilson, I’ve been to the observatory and it’s difficult to see how it could burn. It’s inside a building and there is plenty of room to surround it with fire equipment, not to mention cutting back the vegetation leaving nothing to burn.

It’s a paper weight... Too much light pollution so the loss is negligible.

It's fine for bright objects, like planets, lunar etc...In addition, they're able to use light pollution filters which can help dramatically. Btw, they run this story ever few years, every time there is a fire up there.

What is the building made from? If it’s stone or concrete, it would be less likely to burn.

It’s not going to burn and can easily be defended, and comes with decent roads where lots of fire assets are able to gain access. Every few years they run this story because it’s get attention.

It was the largest when it was built at 100 inches. The 200-inch Hale telescope came later when it became the largest. There are now much larger telescopes usually located at very high altitude in dark locations—Hawaii and Chile come to mind, but they are made up of many smaller mirrors.

I was there sometime in the 90s and watched Lasarium featuring Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Mind Blower.

As L.A. grew so did the light pollution, making Mt. Wilson less than ideal for observing space

Don't worry, in just a few short years we will switch to all wind and Solar and will have eliminated Electricity Usage at Night, Then everyone will be able to gaze at the stars anywhere in California

Can’t they do the same thing that saved the Reagan library. That place was a goner but they somehow protected it.
