One of the residents had unwisely invited Robert Thompson, 47, to stay at the apartment he shared with his girlfriend. He did this despite Thompson having a lengthy rap sheet and a history of criminal behavior.
True to form, Thompson quickly began causing trouble of an alarming kind, including exposing himself to some young girls, throwing a rock through someones window and threatening people (including his hosts) with violence.
Understandably, the apartments tenant, Leander Mccoy, called the police. But after arriving and questioning Thompson, the police simply left, saying they would seek a warrant to deal with the matter.
The following day, Thompsons behavior flew further out of control and he wound up trapping McCoys girlfriend in their bedroom along with a friend. He then took a golf club and began smashing everything in the apartment, moving on to vandalize cars in the parking lot. The police were again called to the scene, but they once again spoke to Thompson and left, saying that it had been decided that they would stand down rather than get into a confrontation with the suspect that could lead to a use-of-force scenario.
Aurora Police Deputy Chief Darin Parker said, Were trying to get the situation resolved with the least amount of escalation, the least amount of confrontation as we can. He went on to say that if the officers had responded more aggressively and attempted to take Thompson into custody it could have led to the use of deadly force.

Now that every police encounter that results in any sort of injury to a Black or Latino suspect thats resisting arrest immediately becomes national news, leading to protests and potential criminal charges against the cops, were seeing police standing down to avoid a violent confrontation.
And this case involved someone who had already exposed himself to children, smashed up a lot of property and threatened multiple people with injury. Is this the future of policing in America? You wont need to abolish the police if you can simply cow them into submission to the point where theyre afraid to do their jobs.
Keep voting for those democrats. This is a glimpse of your life coming to your town soon.
Cops no longer have immunity in Colorado. They can be personally sued in Colorado.
Gosh, now why would the police want to take someone committing crimes into custody? I guess they'll just clean the windshield for drunk drivers, turn their backs on domestic abuse, hold the door open for bank robbers...
Where did these {censored} ever get the idea that selectively applying the law is a good idea? Talk about being wide open for abuse. What if they decided to only enforce the laws against one particular demographic group, and let others slide?
Stay armed, stay safe. You are on your own. Thats the message.
I would encourage the fellow residents to surround him with baseball bats and beat him like a Pinata.
Sounds as if people are getting infuriated when they find themselves getting the type of “POLICE ACTIVITY” they themselves have been demanding.
It can be HELL getting what you wished for, can’t it?
What is going to eventually happen is that all of this “disband the police” movement types are going to beg for them to come back, and with a vengeance when they do.
Opening the door for tyranny and brutal dictatorship.
All part of the plan.
And when you do defend yourself, the DA will come after you with impunity.
The sick thing is, defending yourself WILL get you arrested.
Sounds like Thompson is likely to use deadly force himself, whatever demons possess him.
Vigilante action is inevitable, which is precisely what the radicals and the media want, or think they want. And the likelihood of that getting out of control is nearly equally inevitable. I’m not rooting for it, but I do read history.
Hey, thats life at the moment. Rather be tried by twelve than carried by six.
Have they tried a social worker?
yep, better than being dead.
Yep.
True, but we won’t be returning to sanity any time soon.
If the police play this game around here, the criminals will wish the Police would start doing their job. The citizens will not be as restrained. In fact I would bet a few would enjoy taking care of criminals, whether just a beat down or a shooting.
