The tribe may not be contacted, but their arrows do make contact.

These tribesmen sound xenophobic.

“the indigenous group had no ability to distinguish between friend or foe from the outside world.”

Xenophobes.

I can’t even begin to imagine how LUXURIOUS it would be to live somewhere with no contact with the outside world!

Though, I would miss a few FReepers. ;)

Just went on Priceline and did just that. I owe this man big time. He saved my life!
Kidding aside, he’s not the first to die under such conditions. Over the years there have been many such incidents. Several involving cannibal tribes.

For some reason this story made me think of Teddy Roosevelt’s expedition up the Amazon more than 100 years ago. It may well have led to his death, but imagine an ex-President attempting (or even being allowed to attempt) such a thing today.

Am I the only one thinking “Cannibal Holocaust”? People from the outside screwed with the tribe, tribe later sees different group of outsiders, lunch ensues?

"said the indigenous group had no ability to distinguish between friend or foe from the outside world."

Seems he was right again. It appears, the tribe assumed he was foe.

***said the indigenous group had no ability to distinguish between friend or foe from the outside world.***

In the tribal world all outsiders are the ENEMY. I remember about fifty years ago when first contact was made with the Kren Akori tribe there.

The visitors thought they could just walk in and make contact. When they did, the tribe fled in terror into the jungle. It took years to establish trust and make actual contact.

Anyone remember the missionary a few years ago who decided to visit one of these tribes to spread the word?

They left his arrow riddled body on the beach so people could find him.

“He cried out, pulled the arrow from his chest, ran 50 metres and collapsed, lifeless,” a policeman who accompanied the expedition said in an audio recording posted on social media.

Sounds like he died pretty quick. I think it's safe to assume that there was some kind of poison on that arrow, which is pretty common for Amazonian tribes.
