Rieli Franciscato, 56, spent his career in the governments indigenous affairs agency, Funai, working to set up reservations to protect uncontacted tribes.
Kanindé, an NGO that Franciscato helped found in the 1980s, said the indigenous group had no ability to distinguish between friend or foe from the outside world.

DUMBgrunt is right
Call me anything, but late for lunch.
God thats confusing. Kaninde Funai Relei Funcionando what?
Oldie but goodie!
Seems he was right again. It appears, the tribe assumed he was foe.
The protected nature of these tribes notwithstanding it would not be terribly difficult to dissuade them of such sentiment. They believe themselves to be the masters of there destiny. They believe that only because we are playing falsely with them.
It’s funny but you can get a nice hotel room or suite, with a free breakfast, cable TV, air conditioner, swimming pool, great view of whatever city you’re in for less than $300 a night (even $100 or less if you do your shopping...
OR
Go to the Amazon, book a wooden platform between three jungle trees surrounded by a screened hanging curtain, no AC, no electricity for like $2000 a night
Wait. I thought that native peoples lived in peaceful harmony.
***said the indigenous group had no ability to distinguish between friend or foe from the outside world.***
In the tribal world all outsiders are the ENEMY. I remember about fifty years ago when first contact was made with the Kren Akori tribe there.
The visitors thought they could just walk in and make contact. When they did, the tribe fled in terror into the jungle. It took years to establish trust and make actual contact.
They left his arrow riddled body on the beach so people could find him.
I bet none of the tribes, from Alaska to the Tierra del Fuego ever had a case of “post-traumatic stress” as, in their world, it was good to kill. Brought up your social standing in the tribe.
Bet he won’t do that again.
if theres a group of people that remain uncontacted it means they dont want to be contacted. I am pretty sure they are very aware of the devils of the outside world. These anthropologist researchers should just leave them alone.
Oldie but goodie!
I’m a young septuagenarian!
Few if any would say I was good for much of anything.
Sounds like he died pretty quick. I think it's safe to assume that there was some kind of poison on that arrow, which is pretty common for Amazonian tribes.
Hadn’t heard about that!
Wait. I thought that native peoples lived in peaceful harmony.
Yes!
I see that all the time???
Now that you mention it a local landmark is known as Starved Rock.
Not Peaceful Harmony Rock???
Starved Rock received its name for an event that allegedly took place there about 1770. According to Native American tradition, some Peoria Indians who came under attack by a war party of Potawatomi Indians suffered starvation when trapped on the rock without food or water....

“it’s safe to assume that there was some kind of poison on that arrow, which is pretty common for Amazonian tribes.’
And I was thinking this is similar to some of the inner city sections of Chicago?
Clearly more advanced, no taxes, no police, no robocalls... and they have high tech weapons.
Been there/done that : The year was 1995-traveled down
the Rio Napo, headwaters of the Amazon in the eastern
jungle of Ecuador. Visited the missionaries who lost
several brothers to the tribe known as the Aucas. Was
very happy to head back to Quito!!!
Next time, drum first.
