A former Army Green Beret living in northern Virginia was arrested on Friday, charged with divulging military secrets about his unit's activities in former Soviet republics during more than a decade of contacts with Russian intelligence.
Peter Rafael Dzibinski Debbins, 45, told Russian intelligence he considered himself a "son of Russia," according to an indictment made public after his arrest.
"Debbins thought that the United States was too dominant in the world and needed to be cut down to size," prosecutors alleged.
The indictment also states that Debbins was motivated in part because of bitterness over his Army career and a desire to establish business contacts in Russia.
The espionage took place from 1996 to 2011, prosecutors say.
The case against Debbins is the second Justice Department prosecution announced this week accusing a government or military official of transmitting U.S. secrets to a foreign country. The other case, in Hawaii, charged a former CIA officer with spying for China.

His mother was born in Russia...
Maximum punishment for him could only be life imprisonment...Charges against him are not serious enough for death penalty...
He gave Russians information about soldiers in his unit when it was deployed in former Soviet Republics...
There was the Walker spy ring...
John Walker sold secrets to Soviets mainly to make some extra money...
I don't think Mr. Debbins was motivated by money...
Hanging at dawn.

Must be a dimocrat
What happened to treason?
“Debbins thought that the United States was too dominant in the world and needed to be cut down to size,” prosecutors alleged.”
So they’re going to charge him with holding the EXACT same views as the Democrats and much of the Republican Party? Why? Because he’s white or something?
No they’re not charging him for “holding views”.
They’re charging him for divulging secrets.
I could “hold a view” that wealthy people need to be robbed to make things equitable.
The guy who actually robs from them committed a crime.
Quite a difference.
And I have NO IDEA where the “because he’s white” came from
If the allegations are proven true, then may he rot in prison for the rest of his miserable life for betraying the US to an enemy state. To say nothing of his betrayal of his own unit. What a complete and total piece of garbage you have to be to do such a thing.
“””And I have NO IDEA where the because hes white came from””””
It was humor, Jim.
Or gets a DNC convention speaking slot and fawned over by msnbc and CNN hosts.
I always had a feeling that Lt Col Vindmann was still a Russian at heart, and not on our side. During my military career I had a couple naturalized employees who I felt were still on the other side. American for the advantages, but still loyal to the old country.
Blindfold and last cigarette optional.
How about a permanent visit to a small town near KC ?
Yes, then tied to a post.
Or dropped through the floor.
Blindfold and cigarette optional.
It doesn’t meet the Constitutional definition of treason.
From US Constitution .....
Article 3 ....”..Section 3 defines treason and limits its punishment.
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
.......”
It’s a clear violation of the Espionage act. That will put him away for a long time.
“In one meeting with Russian intelligence, he accepted a bottle of Cognac and a Russian military uniform as payment, according to the indictment.”
Numerous KGB & GRU American spies were given military ranks and awards by the Soviets to show their “gratitude” for betrayers of America’s military and government classified information, especially if the spy didn’t want to be paid.
Here is an older book about Army counter-intelligence and several of its successful cases of finding and catching US Army soldiers who sold out their country to the Soviets during the Cold War. Herrington is a good writer and was personally involved in the cases:
“Traitors Among Us: Inside the Spy Catcher’s World”
by Stuart A. Herrington.
“As director of the elite Foreign Counterintelligence Activity, author Stuart Herrington was the U.S. Army’s top counterintelligence officer. In this thrilling and informative account he details one of the most damaging and delicate cases of espionage ever committed against the United States. Between 1972 and 1988, thousands of highly classified documents were sold to the Soviet Union and her Warsaw pact surrogates. They were secrets so sensitive that had war broken out in Central Europe, our ability to defend our NATO allies would have been seriously compromised. It was up to Herrington and his team to root out the elusive spy ring responsible for this treachery. An intriguing page-turner with more twists and turns than a spy novel, Traitors Among Us guides us through the intricate spy catcher’s world of Cold War Berlin, showing us how the “game” was played when the stakes were as high as national survival.”
Its a clear violation of the Espionage act. That will put him away for a long time.

What this guy did was not as bad as what John Walker did...He will probably plead guilty to several years of federal prison sentence...Not life imprisonment...
My theory is that a great number of Americans sold secrets because they needed money...
Thanks for your input! Well at least he many serve some time . . however, Like many other instance in the country, justice is not being served! We shall see.
