My 3rd Grade teacher would have flunked me if not for having to have me back another year. We did not get along. This was when you were taught cursive writing and being mostly left-handed, I did everything wrong and ignored her attemts to correct my style. As a result I learned to write poorly (thanks to keyboards I have to really concentrate to write a check or something now) - but she was also a mean bitch who used it as a source of ridicule. For example, we’d all pass our papers to the kind in the front desk of each row and she’d pick them up. When she got to my row she’d shuffle thru til she found mine, and then after preening over the nice handwriting of the girls she’d hold my paper up and go on about how messy it was. A real ego booster, that was.
And I returned the favor by acting up and getting in trouble which landed me nearly permanent stay-after-school status. I figured I’d get murdered by my folks, but after the first parent-teacher conference my mom sat me down and had a talk. She could tell the teacher had it out for me, but also knew I was part of the problem. So the deal was, I’d try a lot harder to obey and be nice in class and she wouldn’t tell my dad and make a big deal out of it. Which I guess I did. All I know is my 2nd grade teacher was wonderful and set me on my career path and my 3rd grade teacher was what Hillary would have been if she’d become a teacher instead of a politician.
What is it with teachers...
my 7th grade choral teacher had everyone, one at a time, go up to the piano, he played a line out of a song and then we had to sing it with no accompaniment, his response to me was “if I were you I’d go back and sit down and never try to sing again”
I NEVER FORGOT THAT. (I was in humiliated in front of 30 students in the class)
When I read his obituary 30+ years later I felt a sense of relief.
My Third Grade teacher paddled my butt in front of the class for closing the door too loudly. Then made me smack erasers for two weeks after school. I did not like her much.

Education slide... I think we had the same 3rd grade teacher. I missed half my 2nd grade due to some mystery stomach ailment (Fact-my dad thought I was starving so he made me drink a chocolate milk twice a week, with 2 raw eggs in it... salmonella anyone lol? And we always had pet turtles from the creek) So I never learned how to add or subtract. Ahahah, seriously.
I get to third grade and right before lunch we are supposed to do math quizzes. I can remember the entire class yelling and screaming at me to just finish and me sobbing because I had no idea what I was doing. They passed me every year.. probably because I had nice handwriting and could read. Or because I had red hair and could give a look that said I was a child of the corn.. they didn’t want me a second time??
I’m sorry about your teacher. She sounds rotten. So many people do not belong near kids or in a classroom.
