What is it with teachers...
my 7th grade choral teacher had everyone, one at a time, go up to the piano, he played a line out of a song and then we had to sing it with no accompaniment, his response to me was “if I were you I’d go back and sit down and never try to sing again”
I NEVER FORGOT THAT. (I was in humiliated in front of 30 students in the class)
When I read his obituary 30+ years later I felt a sense of relief.
One of my old shipmates told me that his choral teacher once asked him for the range of his voice.
"A thousand yards."

That is so wrong.
I just retired from my vocation as a public school teacher after 38 years... Most of my career was spent in middle school. Yes, some students were very trying, but I hope/know I never intentionally humiliated any one of them.
Each of us needs to exhibit behaviors to earn respect, but we also need to be shown respect to learn how to do so.
(I was once marked down on an observation for “being too polite” to my students.)

That is horrifying and I’m really sorry. It’s terrible what teachers can do to a young mind. But sometimes, once in a while you get that rare one that puts things together for you.

Just about everyone has had that one horrible teacher. I am thankful, though, for the many others I had who were dedicated, caring teachers.
