Keep all Linux systems updated to kernel version 3.7 or later. A lot of distros do a wretched job of keeping their kernel updated. For reference, kernel version 5.8 was just released. If you can, learn to build & install your own kernel.

Now that Microsoft has become nearly intolerable most everyone either has a Linux system on a computer or are leaning toward doing so. For years Windows was the primary target of these cyber-pirates in the former USSR and it's satellites, but now the free ride is apparently over for alternate operating systems.
Fortunately updating seems to be the solution here but I take this as a "first shot across the bow". Arrr!
