Joe Biden has missed two deadlines to name a running mate to take on Donald Trump. Why is he taking so long?

Joe Biden has given two dates to pick his running mate.

First, he said he hoped to make the choice by August 1.

When that deadline slipped, he promised he'd reveal his pick in the first week of August.

We're still waiting.

So what's going on with Biden and his VP pick? Here's what we know.

When will Biden make his pick?

We just don't know for sure.

We've only got the two confirmed dates out of Biden, and both of those have passed.

The Democratic Convention - the big song and dance where Biden officially becomes the nominee - will be held from August 17-20.

It'd be unprecedented if Biden didn't finalise the choice before then, which means most pundits are expecting him to make the decision sometime in the next week.

Why has he taken so long?

The entire 2020 race has been upended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Timelines that were considered "normal" have been tossed out the window.

Biden can’t decide anything, including what flavor of oatmeal he will be served by his handlers.

The lack of a choice at this late date points to an ongoing power struggle among his handlers.

Jill Biden is probably part of the “moderate” team, Sanders and AOC supportesr part of the “radical” team, and neither faction has subdued the other yet.

Because he isn’t choosing it. The people managing him are choosing and it sounds like there’s an internal argument over who to pick.

My theory as well. They're spoonfeeding him something he's refusing to take, because he doesn't accept that he's not in charge. Probably thinks if he can stall right into the convention, he can hammer out a deal there.

It’s the only way he has of getting any attention. Once he makes the decision he stops being newsworthy

I hope that’s the case, bad internal polling numbers-they could be looking for a fresh face for VP since they don’t have that for President . here’s this tidbit from Fischer Investment Newsletter on Dem Presidential Candidates that has held since 1860-
unless the Democrat candidate is already president then they haven’t won once with the candidate expected from 4 years ago-has to be fresh face-they explain it better:

“An amazing trivia secret: Democrats haven’t won the presidency once since the Civil War with any candidate thought likely to be the next nominee four years earlier, unless already the President somehow. Never, ever! Biden is archetypal of what they always lost with—an old warhorse. They’ve won with previously unexpected names: Grover Cleveland, Woodrow Wilson, FDR, JFK, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and....Barack Obama—unexpected relative blank-slate personas to generate enthusiasm and turnout among youthful voters.”

I would agree...if you laid out Rice, or Harris....it subtracts from the campaign. Same for Whitmer. I don’t think it’ll be announced until 18 August, and more likely that he goes to Senator Warren to improve the odds of winning.

He’s still waiting to hear back from his two top choices: Eleanor Roosevelt and Amelia Earhart.

He’s not making the choice. The democrat party is. He will do what they tell him to do.

The dems are trying to outrun reality. They know Joe isn’t going to make it, and his pick will be the de facto candidate.

Beijing Biden will acknowledge his (fake) ill health, step down and the CPUSA/DNC will pull another “Torricelli Switch”.

Biden’s replacement will become the nominee and name his/her VP.

QUESTION: Why is Hulu doing a “what if documentary” of Hellary? (yes, that’s rhetorical)

Warren would give Biden the “woman of color” that he promised. She could also cook up the fancy crab dish that she provided from her Indian heritage for the cookbook Pow Wow Chow; all the Plains Indians spent their time in gourmet kitchens cooking up complicated crab dishes for when their husbands came in from the buffalo hunt. Its either that or Biden’s staff sees him regularly in rapid mental decline and they are frantically lining up some leftwing kook to take his place, perhaps Warren.

-- Someone else mentioned that the VP choices have declined the offer. --

Good thought. They are all mercenaries, and tying self to Biden even for a short while (even until he is declared incapacitated or dead) may be too much to bear.

The real governor of Georgia, Stacey Abrams, she'd take the assignment.

Team Biden is doing a good job of stoking speculation and keeping the press preoccupied. Is best for him to maintain the suspense for as long as possible. The longer Team Biden waits, the more press time they get, and the more distraction from Joe's diminished faculties and Team Biden's social policies.
