Menswear retailer Tailored Brands Inc. TLRD, -21.23%, the parent company of Men's Wearhouse and Jos. A. Banks, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Sunday, the Wall Street Journal reported. The clothier has been hit hard by pandemic-related store shutdowns, reporting last month that first-quarter sales were down 60%. Since July 1, Tailored Brands has missed missed interest payments on bonds, slashed its corporate workforce by 20%, announced plans to close up to 500 stores and was notified that it will be delisted by the New York Stock Exchange. The company operated more than 1,400 stores in the U.S. and Canada as of Feb. 1, and employed more than 1,900 people. Earlier in the day, fellow troubled retailer Lord & Taylor also filed for bankruptcy.

Suits, outside of weddings and funerals, are becoming the costume of the courtroom, newscasters, and politicians.
In addition to the IRS changing which employees could deduct business professional clothes, the suit, shirt, and tie, have been outdated for decades. Men's business fashions haven't kept up with the times; where do you put your mobile phone (or two if you're carrying a company phone), wallet, transit card, key fob, pens, company ID, etc., especially in 100 degree heat? I see more and more professional men looking like a carpenter with so much gear clipped to their belt.
People travel more and more during the day and need to carry stuff with them. Many commuters roll small luggage behind them.
Men's optimal clothing today would look more like tactical gear with vests, cargo pockets, and even upper sleeve pockets.
Yep...
Yep, about the only time I wear a suit is if my wife and I go to a wedding, funeral, or the opera. A few years ago, we were invited to a black tie wedding and I wore a tux to that. I till like to wear a blazer and tie to church, but only during cool or cold months here in Texas. The rest of the year, I wear dress pants and a long-sleeved dress shirt.
At work, I always wear slacks and a button-down long-sleeved dress shirt. Some days I break down and wear a short-sleeved button down. I get tired of seeing people wearing shorts and a printed t-shirt everywhere, like to restaurants.
Same here. This is a shame. The founder of Men’s Wearhouse got taken out a while back on basically ‘Me Too’ grounds.
It went downhill from there. He got ‘Papa Johned’.
“You’re gonna look great re-organized. I guarantee it”
Even on the few days I've gone into the office, we are dressing business casual. Dockers, button down shirts, loafers, no ties in sight. I wonder if business suits will ever be back the way they once were. It seems the whole world has gone casual overnight.
My only major annoyance I had with Men's Wearhouse is the way they would try to upsell you. You'd be trying out your suit and when you come out, some beautiful saleswoman would have an entire table of shirts, ties, belts and whatnot, hand-selected just for you. My bill would invariably increase at least $200. Boy, did my wife hate the way those women so effortlessly parted me from my cash.
Speaking of neckties, I've got over 100 silk ties in my closet. With the push of a button, I can make them rotate in front of me with one of three motorized carousels like that pictured below. One carousel for summer ties, one for winter ties and one for speciality ties like the ones you wear for funerals, at Christmas or St. Patricks Day. People think I'm nuts.
Should have switched to selling nice sets of rioting apparel.
These days wearing a suit to the office makes your coworkers think you are going on a job interview internally or someplace else
My husband looks GREAT in a fedora!

Wear a blue suit, Lenny (Bruce), other lawyers had told him.
Wear a blue suit.
Why?
Well the jury, they get mixed up looking for the crook.
I was a sales rep for 20 years. Covered most of the South. I had a sales manager from the east come ride with me for a week. He showed up in a suit and tie. I told him to ditch the coat and tie because my customers didn’t trust people in suits. Suits mean lawyers or government types.
