I have received no mail for six days. I just phone the Postmaster and he said he has received maybe ten calls today.
This is a rural route.
He does not know why but they are only getting a third or fourth as much mail as they usually do.
No problem here in small town KS. Lots of political mail. eBay purchases moving in a timely manner.
That doesn't seem to have been a common practice around here. There have been multiple times when even tracked mail did not arrive because the carrier was unable to deliver all the mail they had.
Be thankful...
Check the local dumpsters. Some mail “workers” like to “lighten their load”. Just sayin’...
It must vary according to location.
Our central processing center is Pensacola. It used to by Panama City, but the change was probably to save money.
In reality there is no way the USPS could prepare for the actual mail volume that would be involved if the election were handled with 100% mail in ballots as the Democrats would like. There is little to no chance that they could even handle the volume of mail, since they would have tens of millions of extra pieces of first class mail all of which had to arrive by Nov 3rd.
Why dont they just do mail delivery every other day, I think mail delivery Mon. Wed. Fri. Would be be fine with most people, if packages come in deliver just the packages!! You could have just a few people each day deliver packages!!
This is from a friend of mine who works at the post office.
Praviously, after the public windows closed, they’d go to the back and finish sorting whatever mail was on the dock so it was ready to go out in the morning. How long it took varied greatly depending on how much came in that day (and Amazon in general has greatly increased their parcel volume). But no matter how much there was the standard was “processed and ready to go before you leave” so they tended to get a lot of overtime.
The new Postmaster General decided he’d rather have them punch out before OT hit and leave whatever did not get done on the dock. That quickly became a problem because the mail just keeps coming. If they got 90% done then the remaining 10% got added to whatever came in the next day, and so on.
The plan was to pick-up the slack with part-time temps, but they have had great difficulty in hiring and retaining them. It’s real work, and people seem to prefer sitting home and collecting their extra $600.
Reportedly the new Postmaster General is backpedaling and has gone back to the drawing board.
I order antibiotics and it is taking damn near 3 months for them to arrive, was 3-4 weeks until recently!!
Same thing going on here in our small Alaska town.
They did ALL mail in voting for primary in NY it has been a month since the election and they STILL dont have the results!! What a CLUSTER F@$K!!
Whatever the reason, this is real. The odds of not getting mail for six straight days is probably in the millions to one.
our mail is always late, or delivered to the incorrect address.
It’s because they need more money. Plus the Covid. But they are heroes!
So what about those “mail” in ballots?
In addition to the miscalculation about not getting it all out on a daily basis, some of the union brothers have not liked their loss of overtime and are showing their displeasure to the new Postmaster with, shall we say, slowdowns.
Your house is the end of the pipeline for mail.
Nothing is going into that pipeline. No advertising. Very little junk mail.
If you dont get a lot of bills, your other mail is drying up to almost nothing.
Therefore, you will go days without getting any.
The billions in shortfalls at the PO has very little to do with operating expenses and almost everything to do with their required retirement contributions. Without them, the federal retirement system would collapse overnight.
Its an easy fixbut no politician in the world will touch it.
I have a package thats a week overdue, coming from L.A. It was at the LA ISC on 7/18.
USPS has been sending me exception text messages for days on the progress, but there is no transit status to be updated, so theres no idea where the package is, now.
“I work at the post office”
Can I charge the Post Office for 1/2 of my garbage/recycling bill?
We need $1 stamps and the end of bulk rates. First class only mail system. And packages.
