Spam is mass sending of multiple copies of the same message, unsolicited, to a LOT of different people...usually with advertising or solicitation of an offer to buy.

On the Q threads, the first 10 posts or so are a list of links and summations of Q for the curious, so they don't constantly tug on people's sleeves going "what is this for?" and "what does THAT mean?" It's kind of like "station identification" where people announce they're on board and following the new thread.
