TROY, N.Y. - Albany police say a Troy man was arrested following an incident in May involving a molotov cocktail being thrown at four police officers and their police horses during a riot.
Dwight Parker, 38, of Troy, was arrested Thursday morning in the City of Troy following an investigation by detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit. Parker was arrested at his residence with the assistance of the Troy Police Department.
On Saturday, May 30, at around 9:15 p.m., police say Parker threw a molotov cocktail incendiary device at four police officers on horseback during a riot that was taking place in the area of South Pearl and Arch Streets in Albany. As a result, the incendiary device exploded directly at the feet of four police officers who were on horseback.
Parker was charged with four counts of first-degree attempted assault, four counts of attempted aggravated assault on a police officer, four counts of attempting to injure a police animal and one count of first-degree reckless endangerment.
Shalene Allen, 37, and Imari Allen, 18, who are Parker’s wife and daughter, were also arrested for their alleged roles in the riot. They were each charged with one count of first-degree inciting a riot.

Years ago, when my town still had a mounted unit, the police chief, commenting on their effectiveness, was quoted in the paper as saying, “In a riotous crowd, when you strike an officer, you are a hero but if you hit a horse, you are just a jerk.”
