The study, published in the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America on Monday, says there is now a 2.3% chance of an earthquake of magnitude 7.5 or greater in the next 12 months on a section of the 160-mile-long Garlock fault, which runs along the northern edge of the Mojave Desert.
That increased likelihood, in turn, would cause there to be a 1.15% chance of a large earthquake on the San Andreas fault in the next year.

If my odds of winning at gambling tripled from .77 to 2.3 I would not gamble more. Those odds are so low that they are meaningless. Give me numbers like 23.0 and I will start to worry, but 1 in 40? I will bet against those odds every single time.
The odds of there being a major earthquake in California are way more than dying of Covid. Shouldn’t Governor Newsom evacuate the state?
Well.
Murder hornets.
Alligators in trees.
Flying spiders.
Chinese plague.
Riots and race wars.
Chinese Communists angling for war.
Lockdowns.
Facemaksks.
I guess an 8.0 earthquake in California would fit right in.
We’ve lived in California for 75 years, and heard this same dire warning of anywhere from 6.8 - 9.0 to the point we just say “OK, here we go again”. Someday it will happen, but the little boy has cried Wolf so often we just can’t get excited.

Yep...lol...no surprise there.
However, you maybe should have added a massive alien invasion from outer space to the list.
Don’t give him any ideas. He might send those left coast idiots here.
Yep, another new study.
Chance?
Of total course.
Science? Not yet there in Cali ‘quake prediction.
Trump’s Fault!
No! That would ridiculous!!!!
Oh, wait...
Could be God taking care of business.

I was there in the Northridge quake. That was enough for me.
I was too and I'm still here. Looking to get out but where to? There's no place I can think of that's entirely safe from tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, wildfires, crime, mob violence etc. Big quakes are really devastating but thankfully they don't happen that often, even in Calipornia.
me too That was a mofo
So was I. I lived in the heart of Northridge when the quake hit....
Moved to New Hampshire, now I feel much safer. :)
See _The Big One_ by Kevin E. Ready for a novel-length depiction of an earthquake on the Garlock and San Andreas faults.

Born in Ca, but lived several other places.
Sylmar, Northridge, and other quakes not enough to make me think about leaving over quakes.
Weather can’t be matched.
Societal decline, liberalism, would be my reason to move, but my wife doesn’t agree.
