Born and raised in the SF Bay Area of California. Ive fought the good fight for over 50 years but Im over it and its time to go. Were OUTTA here tomorrow morning!!! Tampa, Florida here we come!
I grew up in Norcal and left as a young adult in 1998. Best decision I ever made.
Traffic in Tampa can remind you of the bay area at times. It definitely has some big city feel/urban sprawl that I do not care for.
We ended up setting in the Jax area. About 2 hours from Orlando and 4 from Tampa. St. Johns County/Saint Augustine in particular. More right sized for us. We’re 10 minutes from the majestic St. Johns river and 30 minutes from the beach. Cost of housing is lower than Tampa/Orlando/South Florida, too. Lots of retired military and national guard on my block. In another decade or two we’ll be built out like Tampa or Orlando but for now am enjoying our little slice of Florida paradise. Good luck!
Congrats! I hope to follow you out next year.
Don’t forget your masks!! Good Luck!!
People are afraid to pack up, leave their jobs and make temporary sacrifices for long term security. I have friends in CA that say in 5 years when I can retire Ill leave. They dont understand; they dont have 5 years. I urge them to pull up stakes, sell your home, find a better place... on YOUR terms! Because in 5 years when they are driven out there will be nothing left to salvage, theyll have to walk away from their devalued homes without the equity they had been investing in their whole adult lives, and being of retirement age theyll have difficulty finding employment and starting all over again elsewhere. Its a fear factor that needs to be addressed.
Come to Washington, we need you because we are not gone quite yet, its Seattle that needs to succeed.
That way we can destroy it and then rebuild it.
You will be eaten by alligators or boa constrictor or blown away by hurricane : )
Safe travels! As a Texan who spent 16 years in California, Ill never forget driving across the California state line on the way back to Texas 5 years ago this month. It was a great decision, and your move will be too!
Yeah. I taught in LAUSD for 16 years, and did my best to give kids at least a little exposure to other points of view, although mostly I just taught classic literature. And I hope I made a difference. But the time comes when you’re just like... I gotta get out of here.
Im looking forward to the sharks!
Ill see your Cascades and raise you Olympic peninsula beach. Left LA in 96.
Congrats!!
And, happy to hear that you’re moving to FL.
TX, unfortunately, is completely full :-)
Seriously, best of luck and congrats!
Don’t forget to register to vote in FL. We need your vote!
Great post.
You’re exactly right.
its sooo bad that the leftists have ruined it....
cold and snow kills off the bugs and places a nice wet layer on the ground that slowly seeps into the soil and brings about wonderful lawns and trees and gardens in the spring...
cold and snowy make for the best nesting opportunities....warm fire, slow cooked stews or soups, music in the background...just a nice peaceful setting, as life was meant to be...
Just punch em in the snout if they get too close.
Sometimes it does not work....

I love CA. I was born in the SF Bay Area and stayed there until 2009. I love the City, so beautiful and romantic. But I hate what they’ve done to it. I’m hopeful someday something will change so once more I can “go back to my City by the bay”.

Same with SoCal and the beaches. Love it but the bad guys are ruining it. Hope for a change soon.
I LOVE Ca. also HOWEVER I am getting the hell out of here as fast as I can!! The state will NEVER return to what it once was, these bastards have completely changed the demographics of the state AND the illegals are more important to our legislators than the citizens are!! CA. is way past the point of no return!!
