It is. It is far more than a biological.

Yes. I hadn’t thought of that, but...so true. Great analysis! Just great.

I am listening (again) to Thomas Sowell’s “The Vision of The Anointed”, and he just finished talking about Ralph Nader (the liberal leftist wet dream) and it made me think of the 55 mph speed limit again and all that was wrong with it.

You know, he showed in more than a few ways his conservative shortcomings, but he will always be high on my list simply for his actions in the LINEBACKER II campaign that bombed Hanoi and Haiphong, and laid mines in Haiphong harbor. Should have been done at least six or seven years earlier.

I always cut Nixon slack because of that.

I don’t know if what the Swedes did was right or wrong, but I feel that this is the truth:

This forced government separation of people from engaging in perhaps the most treasured pursuit of happiness known to humans - that of the company of other humans - is every bit as corrosive and destructive to our well being as the loss (and the future loss) of income due to a damaged economy.

And the potential of future misery resulting from this forced separation of people is, to me, astonishingly huge. I think it has the potential to be, in the long run, just as destructive in the cultural sense as it will be in the financial sense if things go the wrong way.

As for the financial sense..

I am an optimistic person by nature, and hope for a V-shaped economic recovery, but I keep in mind that after the big crash of 1929, it took a few years for people to realize that things were going to be worse than they thought.

I pray that isn’t so.

But a society that has become increasingly fragmented and less physically participatory in a public sense, something that makes people avoid eye contact, shy away when someone violates a six foot distance rule, or worst of all, turn people against their neighbors because they did or didn’t wear a mask, is like throwing gasoline onto a cultural fire.

And then there are elements who are deliberately stirring up racial strife to open that gasoline valve even wider. One could be forgiven for thinking that this confluence of destructive and divisive elements was being fostered on purpose.

I don’t think I am alone in this anymore, but I get the feeling more frequently that I almost don’t even want to go out in public, because I can’t stand seeing the public display of stupidity.

Which is precisely a sentiment those fostering and feeding the unrest wish to propagate.

The whole grasping of power by some is disconcerting, to say the least.

You almost get the feeling they are next going to command: “All citizens will now have to walk on their hands for the last 3 seconds of every hour, ending in a one hand stand.”

It is almost as if you could hear them say “Okay, we can’t get them to do that. That’s a hard line. Let’s move it back a bit. But whatever it is that we make them do, the important thing is that the masks must be on while they do it. We must remember to think of it as an invisible dog collar for their free will.”

Oh my goodness!!

Who knew there were so many Drama Queens at FreeRepublic until COVID-19 came along? Over a stupid mask!?!?

Where were y’all when we’re forced to wear orange to hunt, even deep into our own land?

Where was the out cry over seat belts?

Anti-maskers are more angry over the fact that they’re not wearing mask than people who would prefer they do. Madness!

Find something more meaningful to flip out about than a mask.

No one outside of your little cliche takes you seriously.

I mean, a small engine mechanic claiming to understand stats and the bio makeup of COVID-19 better than 2 large State college educated Governors who are loyal Conservatives that are surrounded by more college educated Doctors is totally laughable!

Just nutty stuff.

You should understand that a government that can force you to wear a mask and regulate the amount of water you flush in a toilet can do many things when they wish to do so.

Never heard people losing their collective minds over toilet water.

Talking about recalling Abbott. Attacking a good loyal Conservative because grown men are behaving like 7 year olds over mask.

Get. Real.

Where was I attacking a “good loyal Conservative”?

I was attacking the mindset that brought us here.

As in all matters, never, I repeat, never be interviewed by the police or in this case health department persons. Tell them you are a great friend of the police, the department of health or whatever, but do not answer any question other than providing identification.

It is virtually impossible for an enforcement person to prove you are not exempt from the mask requirement due to your health, activity or destination other than your answer to their questions:

“Anton, do you have a respiratory illness that prevents you from wearing a mask? Uh, no.”

Wrong answer. They cannot get your medical records.

You went from mask to boxcar.

We use to make fun of the Left and their overly dramatic thoughts and behavior.

Use to.

Yes........the Leftist way, you disagree with them, you’re a Nazi.

Anti-Maskers.......your a Chad or Karen.

You’re really not much different ya know. More in common than you think.

DeSantis is a Chad. Abbott is a Chad. The list keeps growing.

But what are you?

It isn’t the mask that is the issue

It is what comes after, the citizenry pecking at someone who doesn’t want to comply with forced behavior, the snitching and denouncing of everyone including family.

In Orwell’s “1984” one of the goals of the State was to have people self-limit their freedom, speech, and thoughts.

That was the ideal for the state. You don’t have to waste your time enforcing action, speech, and thoughts.

And that is where we are headed. People who have lived under that kind of tyranny see it all too well and it is shocking them to see it here.

“Anton, do you have a respiratory illness that prevents you from wearing a mask?

The answer is, "You may not ask me that question". If you really want to gild the lily you can say, "I am sorry but my answering that question would mean that I helped you violate the ADA and I do not want to get you into legal trouble."

Of course talking to the police in the first place is a no no.

There are only five things you can say to the police.

1.)Am I free to leave? (if they say yes then leave)

2.) Am I under arrest? (If the answer is no then ask the first question.)

3.) Do you have a warrant?

4.) May I see the warrant?

5.) I wish to consult with my attorney before answering any questions.

6.) No comment.

Ok maybe seven things.

Not a Chad or Karen, like yourself, falling for lies and propaganda.

DeSantis and Abbott are listening to people like you.

My feeling is that their hands are somewhat tied, and I don’t think that an accident.

I liken it to the way the Left has been trying to maneuver Trump into a box for quite a while, but he declines to go in. It is a tricky game, like firing Mueller.

He should have. That is what many of us thought. Early on, we could see how crooked it was.

But he chose to play the political chess game instead of storming the beaches.

I personally don’t fault DeSantis or Abbot. They, like many others, are being moved along by forces that have taken on a life of their own.

And for the left, no good crisis should go to waste. That is a fact.

What a very well written and truthful post.

I’m of a similar mind as you in that I dread leaving home.

Luckily, masks aren’t required in my State. Yet.

The media are doing their best to incite as much panic as they can and I’m seeing more zombies wearing the damned masks.

I have been deeply depressed and I know the scamdemic and the riots and vandalism are largely responsible.
